We have a hole in the hallway that was caused by my brother jumping on my back one night and me ramming him backwards into the wall. It is basically the outline of someone's back so it is pretty big. Our douche bag apartment maintenance crew saw it today and we got a letter saying they said they are going to fix it themselves and we dont have any other option. How much can i expect to pay for this? Anyone have past experience with this type of shiat

You could try asking them.[Edited on January 24, 2008 at 1:56 PM. Reason : But it really doesn't matter, since you pretty much have to pay it ...]

not expensive. get some drywall or whatever, replace the panel, touch it up if you need to with spackle, sand, paint.
1/24/2008 1:55:28 PM
^no thats what i mean i was going to fix it with my dad but we dont have that option because they said they have to know how it is fixed, which is why they use their own contractors

shouldnt be more than a couple hundred bucks if that1 piece of drywall (they'll probably tell you its 3/4" and really give you 3/8" or some shit)a knifesome mudsome tapesome paintlabormarkup/profit]

I hate it when apartment owners expect their tenants not to put human-sized holes in the walls. Douchebags!

their gonna over charge the shit out of you... typically you can fix this for less than 40 on your own, expect 40 to be their hourly rate charge which will include the time it takes for the mud to dry and the paint to dry... /horseshit

I would fix it myself before their contractors even get there.
1/24/2008 2:10:51 PM
call a drywall vendor and have them come out and do an estimate...tell the apartment people you will pay them that and nothing more.

wont work^apt. manager will have to agree on who is fixing itApologize, pay the outrageous price, and go about life and learn from your dumbass mistakes and how you can get screwed over for them.[Edited on January 24, 2008 at 2:18 PM. Reason : f]

I'd fix it (by myself or using a contractor of my choice) with the quickness and tell them to screw themselves. Patching sheetrock is not hard. The sheetrock, tape, and mud will be like $20 bucks at Lowes. Any handyman can probably replace the sheet, tape it, and mud it in 30 minutes if you don't want to do it yourself. It'll take a second trip out for him to sand the mud and paint, but you can definitely do that even if you don't feel comfortable patching the sheetrock. They are going to try to burn you on this. You can tell by the fact that they won't let you hire your own person to do the work. I would make a stand if I were in your shoes.

I'm not saying it's hard to fix some broke gypsum, but it is hard to make it look good (specially considering the size and whatever the placement of the hole is), which will be their argument as to why they want it done by someone they deem as credible.good luck...let us know how it turns out[Edited on January 24, 2008 at 2:34 PM. so the answer to the question of "how much it would cost me" is apparent but does anyone have a rought estimate at what a contractor would charge....maybe from experience with this type of situation?

is it a hole or a dent...we filled in a dent with putty at one of my places
1/24/2008 7:13:12 PM
as much as a poster costs
1/24/2008 7:14:02 PM
one: cut a hole in a walltwo: put your junk in that wallthree: make her open the stall doorand thats how you do it! its my dick in a glory hole
1/24/2008 7:18:56 PM
depending on the location on the wall and its over size...less than 200
1/24/2008 7:20:30 PM
hahaha me and some of my drunk ass friends put the exact same hole in our wall last week after a good night of drinkin... my one friend who paints and does handywork for money on the side (being one of the people in question btw) said that we could fix it pretty easily
1/24/2008 7:24:15 PM
You could fix it yourself for less than $60 garunteed. The APT. is going to screw you and probably keep your deposit, and charge you another $200.To have someone come out will be at least $60, plus probably $40 an hour, for a couple of hours. So, $200 wouldn't be unreasonable. Then there are the painters.....

Same shit happened to me. They "charged" me 800$ for two fist shaped holes in the wall. I got 2 estimates and went to the NCSU legal aid office. They can't charge you more than the rate that you get out of some insurance book that is published every year, that dictates labor rates and material costs for every repair in the world. The Legal office typed a letter that I sent the parent company of the apartment and I got 450$ back in a week.

My sister fell down the stairs one time in her townhouse in college and spilled grape juice all over the walls...and they charged her to repaint the entire wall of the stairs instead of like a few spots where the paint had been stained... It was white paint... and long story short, it was almost $600.00 She could have done it herself...I hate people!
