The media doesn't like this guy. I don't know why.

You know, it is interesting. Romney is spending his own money on the campaign, and money can buy a little bit of exposure, but it doesn't compare to the free exposure and media coverage that McCain is getting.

And nevermind the fact that Romney has more money contributed to his campaign than McCain.

Romney should be receiving praise, not insinuations, for spending his own money. The $40 million he expects to raise is worth a shitload of coke and top-notch whores.

I ponder if it would be a good idea to cap contributions to $1/person, thus forcing the presidential candidate to spend his own money. The message will be clear: if you want to be president, then you need to become a financial success, first.

Why not? The main thing polititions do is collect/spend money. Forcing the candidate to prove that he is competent in doing this seems like a good idea.

Yes, I know that this probably isn't a popular idea. But it might be the only chance our gov't has at becoming fiscally responsible.

I know why McCain is liked by the media:

The media knows that McCain cannot beat Hillary.

I don't give a shit what he does on Sunday. He could blow coke and whores all day for all I care.

All I know is that he is a gigantic success as a governor in a liberal state that was losing in all categories, and now is one of the most succesfull in the nation.

^^^Actually I think McCain has the best chance of beating Hillary. Romney's Mormon and flip-flopped on issues, Huckafuck is nuts, and Guiliani's record as a mayor is catching up with him.

If the republican party nominates a mormon they can plan on not controlling congress or having a president in office next year.

it's tragic that the only major candidate this round that's fit to run this country won't even win his party bid

The fact that he acts like a world-class douchebag doesn't have anything to do with it?

Mormons vs. Evangelicals ... keep that up and many years from now the US will end up like Iraq with the Shia vs. Sunni.

Keep your religious preferences out of politics.

religion has nothing to do with it. that's what the media seems to be wanting. an all out religious hatred in the US.

isn't this one of the stated goals of the ACLU and left media? They hate religion, so why not make the republicans and religious suffer all over.

i for one will not bow to the medias wishes. in fact i think a lot higher of mormons now than i did 6 months ago.

He's gone the most aggressively negative of all the candidates, that hurts him.

Romney remaining one of the front runners since day one isn't news. McCain returning from the brink of extinction is. If any candidate is getting shafted its Ron Paul, whose fundraising has gone largely ignored, but he isn't -- and wouldn't be -- a real front-runner anyway.

If you're speaking strictly of the President (since that is the topic of the thread) then no, he isn't the source of appropriations.

Money makes the world go round, but it isn't the meaning of life.

1 He's a douchebag
2 He's a douchebag
3 He's a douchebag

Spend 30 minutes on Youtube watching videos of him and it becomes clear that he is a flip-flopper and will say whatever his audience wants to hear.

McCain is favored by the Democrats? Doesn't that say something about his electability? He's the only shot the Republicans have to hold onto the Presidency after 8 years of Bush. No one else has a chance in hell.

Your idea about campaign money is foolish. Of course it would only let rich people become President. But that's a bad thing. It would ensure that someone with less money but better ideas would have absolutely no chance of winning. By your standards, Paris Hilton would be able to run while many more qualified people would not. Stupid idea!

Steve Forbes
Op-Ed

There is a lot of talk about change in this year’s presidential race. But if Washington is truly broken, then it doesn’t merely need to be changed. It needs to be transformed.

That’s why we need to send the man who turned around New York City to the White House.

[R]udy Giuliani [has] proposed to dramatically simplify the tax code and implement the largest tax cut in modern American history. His proposal offers a fiscally conservative remedy for … bloated bureaucracy.

According to the Cato Institute, today it takes more than 28 hours for one person to fill out a 1040 form.

[A]mericans waste 6.5 billion hours a year filling out tax forms, keeping tax records, or trying … to decipher tax rules, at the cost of roughly $200 billion a year. … Today, the federal tax code is more than 9 million words.

Giuliani … will give every taxpayer the option to use a one-page, Fair and Simple Tax ("FAST") Form. … Prized deductions for mortgage payments, state and local taxes, charitable contributions, the personal exemption, and child tax credits will all be preserved.

For many families in Florida, choosing the FAST Form would be an easy choice. A family of four with a household income of $80,000 per year could see its estimated federal income tax burden reduced by $2,207 — or 24 percent.

He would make the Bush tax cuts permanent. He would cut the corporate tax rate … He would repeal the death tax … He would cut the capital gains tax … And he would index the alternative minimum tax for inflation and put it on the course to eventual elimination.

Rudy’s tax plan also addresses rising concerns over increased health care costs. He would create new tax-free savings accounts to eliminate the double-taxation of personal savings. Furthermore, he champions the health-care tax exclusion.

Rudy Giuliani knows that self-government, not centralized government, makes America great. … And his record is that of a true fiscal conservative.

[W]hen Democrats call for change, they mean change for the worse — sending more power and more money to Washington. … By enabling all Americans to file a one-page tax return, cutting the number of tax rates and cutting taxes across the board, Rudy will fix a complicated mess with a simpler, flatter and fairer tax code, in which every American is free to choose. We don’t need … old big-government solutions repackaged as "change."

Steve Forbes is national co-chair and senior policy adviser for Rudy Giuliani’s campaign. A candidate for president in 1996 and 2000, he is the president and chief executive officer of Forbes and editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine."
