lets not dwell on that last play, you don't lose games on one play. Javi did not cost us this game. In fact, Javi was exactly what we needed him to be tonight and was the only brightspot outside of fells (and bens greatest pass of all time)

Javi is starting to come around and if tonight is a sign of things to come we will be fine. He was finally a dual threat and only had 1 turnover.

If you want to point fingers head over to the costner thread.

^^^^ Better than not holding the ball and turning it over constantly. But yes, he does hold the ball too long.

I'd say the worst thing to happen tonight was that alleyoop. Will make sportscenter and show us in bad light on more bs.

once they get the jaws of life to pry his fingers from around his own neck, maybe he will be ok

say what you will about the rest of his game tonight, but that last shot was one of the worst chokes i have ever seen

he can't shoot a 3 to save his life. His form is god awful and he got lucky that he made that one. Hell, he missed an open layup and wasn't even close.

yes, gt hit every foul shot under pressure, exactly what you would expect from a team playing a road game with the worst record out of 11 teams.

i'm not gonna sell myself on one or the other too quickly. from our qb situation the last few years, i am too used to a player having a great, or even decent, game and then becoming our darling despite having multiple interceptions in every game after that.

javi gets a B- for tonight

I didn't really expect a freshman scurred point guard to hit a buzzer beater at the end, he'll keep improving slowly, but Degand was already getting there before he went out, that was pretty bad loss.

Atsur had a lot of buzzer beater choked 3s back in his day too, not that Javi and Engin are similar in any way other than that.

Javi is much scrappier on defense, he gets a lot of steals and gets in the passing lanes and his 3 ball is getting better, Marques is mediocre in all aspects. He can't shoot and he knows it, and that's why he's always getting huge open looks with no defender that he still won't take.

c'mon man, nobody EXPECTED him to hit it, but they def didnt expect him to miss it 5 fucking feet. the thing almost went into the stands. an acc pg should never miss an open 3 that badly. that is a choke job.

IT WASN'T MEANT FOR HIM TO TAKE THAT SHOT...HE DIDN'T GO TO THE OTHER END AT FIRST TO INBOUND THE BALL FOR A REASON

It was meant for javi to take the shot. Sid said they knew he'd get an open look because they had been playing him soft outside.

for those wondering about the last play...

Quote :
"According to Gonzalez and Sidney Lowe, Fells was supposed to bring the ball up and dribble through a screen from Gonzalez for the jumper. But Fells thought Gonzalez was supposed to take the inbounds while he set up the screen and then took the pass from Gonzalez. What actually happened was neither, and the final result was an airball."

I really don't see how he played so good tonight....He made a 3 and 2 wide open layups. Marques made a few shots as well but still isn't looking to shoot. Javi still dribbles around nearly getting called for 5 seconds and looks lost out there. His defense is what is so bad, Causey scored on him at will beating him on the dribble. It seemed to me like we were in control of the game when Johnson was in and then Javi would come in and we would lose the lead and they would take over. Am I the only one seeing this?

javi is easily the second best defender on the team behind fells.

You can hate on his ugly shot, his lack of decisiveness in the backcourt, his sometimes boneheaded passes out of bounds, but not his defense.

^ i agree. i thought he did a damn good job defending. he got bumped off on a couple screens and causey had a good game, but not because of javi. javi is a pretty decent defender.

im with FatTony on this one.

and i support this thread, i hated javi more than anyone through most of this season, but he's shown a lot of improvement, especially last night (minus one of the worst last-second shots ive ever seen).

yea, we really need to give him credit for a much improved performance on his part. some confidence driving to the basket, etc. just forget about that last shot

i am too. i think marques looks more "deer in headlights" than javi does at this point in time.
marques' three point form is waaaay worse than Javi.

There is a reason marques isnt looking to shoot. he really cant. yes, javi does dribble around too much but thats not all his fault. the other players on the floor have to learn to move without the ball.

i think javi is doing the best he can on defense. again, the kid is a freshman that was supposed to sit this year and learn. he wasnt brought here to play starting PG.
to me, we were more in control of the game when Javi was in and johnson was out. esp. the way javi finished up the first half.

and give lots of credit to causey. IMO he is the reason tech won the game. Causey stayed step for step w/ Lawson during the UNC game. I would love to have that kid on our time. kid beasted us last night

^ i couldn't agree more about causey. he's the reason they beat us, and one of the main reasons they almost beat unc.

I don't know, I still see him as a liability. Pretty much, he was so awful before that he looked halfway decent last night. He can't shoot, he picks up his dribble as soon as he gets pressured, and he's not tall enough to make up for his lack of athletic ability. Ususally those short PGs play killer defense and hit open jumpers. He can't do either.

that doesn't mean he can't play defense at all.

causey owned our whole team last night. there was no help, javi got screened the whole time, and causey is quick as hell. i'm not making excuses for javi, but i thought he did a damn good job.

I have this game DVR'ed. I am going to go back and watch it but it seemed to me that Javi lost his man a lot on defense and that Causey scored at will on him. I really don't see how he is a good defensive player. Hell nobody on this team is a good defensive player.

well i thought he did a good job defending. yes, he lost causey at times, but it seemed like javi was being screened and double screened all night and defensive help was slow.
