i thought i would share with some of you what a friend and i are doing bc we're bored.find a f4i engine that a highschooler set the timing on wrong and bent the valves. buy it on the cheap:the stator and stator cover were included as welltear it apart and find these:start buyin shit to fix it on the cheap.8 valves need to be replaced. and they are 30 a pop from honda.. fuck that.so im buying a used head with 4000 miles off a wrecked f4ithe cylinder walls arent scored up or anything. so i think ill just put in new rings, bearings, head gasket, check to see if the connecting rods are still straight. (the piston heads dont even look touched).the tranny gears and clutches are flawless on this spare engine.all said and done i hope to have the engine rebuilt (as a spare) for under 300-400 bucks.

you need to put that engine on a kart
1/23/2008 8:12:32 PM
you ought to give the cylinders a light hone to help seat the new rings, even if they look alright. The rods are most likely just fine...those 5mm valves haven't got a prayer against the iron connecting rods. http://www.servicehonda.com is a good place to get OEM parts for decent prices, although you have to look up the part numbers somewhere else.

haha yeah. i showed the valves to my dad and he said 'aint those some pea shooters, must be from ur bike'I think i want to get the block dipped and cleaned as well while everything is out of it and we will also get a deglazing hone done.we saw some light surface 'cracking' on the outside of the block. but that might just be the stuff they coated the block with. bc it def. doesnt go all the way through. we'll find out when we bring it to the shop.I'm going to get the head resurfaced anything else i should do to the head while it is off? . are any noticeable gains seen from a port and polish? do i need to..grind the old valves and all the valve seats or hone the valves and set thevalve clearence when i put it back together? the head im purchasing only has 4000 miles off a wrecked f4i.im wondering what that machine work will run me any ideas?thanks for the help, this is fun.

about putting it in a kart. i would get into too much trouble in cary with that. i'd be stupid and race cops with it .

the real question that my buddy and i are thinking about is whether or not to actually 'build' the engine.i only bought that head gasket for 6 bucks.. so i dont care if we decide to bore it out.wiseco has a 618cc kit here: http://www.wiseco.com/PDFs/Catalogs/CB07/HondaCycleStreetOverbore.pdfwith bumped compression etc.it runs 605 bucks tho... and then we would have to get the bike a pcIII and dyno tuned to run right.so that would run 605 for the kit.. ~220-250 for the pcIII and ~250 for dyno tuning...so ... 1000 extra bucks to have a semi lil built engine in the f4i, plus the costs of boring it out.. etc.My buddy is doing some light port and polishing to the head ghetto style, with a dremel lol.you think it's worth it? to build it? or just put it back to stock?

some pics of the cylinder walls, and somewhat torn down crank case

I've got some honda valves sitting around here somewhere that look just like that. Nah, don't waste any money on it unless you're keeping it for yourself.

yeah im keepin the f4i engine as a spare for my bike. i beat the shit out of my bikes apparently. and this one has a good tranny/clutches (my current clutches are slipping) and other good spare parts, case covers etc.i dont think ill build it tho, just back to stock. that money can go to me gettin' another ram.[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 10:38 PM. you will never feel the extra 18cc from the overbore, and as a matter of fact you will most likely lose a good amount of power from your ghetto port job. Enlarging the ports on the head does not make more horsepower....shaping a port for optimum air flow doessome of the most hp gains in heads are done by adding metal[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 10:54 PM. i have a good feeling he won't be doing anything but fuckin it up, i bet he doesnt even own a micrometer, but if everything looks, ok, i guess its good to go maybe you should learn how to take out a brake pedal screw without stripping it and buy something besides a jcpenny scooty puff junior tool set and learn some skills instead of just fucking up shit and selling it, kid

Finding someone who can grind 5mm valves is going to be tricky, but that would be the best route if you are going to rebuild the head. I've always simply hand lapped the valves, which is time consuming. You might be able to get a thousandth or two cut off the head, but be careful of compression ratio changes. If the head looks alright, I wouldn't be afraid to just run it as it is with only 4000 miles on it. A stock rebuild is probably the easiest and cheapest route, and those engines aren't all that bad power-wise to start with.I think HRT Performance up in Durham can at least hone the block, and possibly be able to do the headwork too, but you would have to call them to find out for sure. They are in the process of relocating, so I'm not sure what their lead time is right now either.

I'm happy to hear 69 chime in under his new alias superflydude. what's the matter couldnt get unsuspended?we have a micrometer and a honda service manual with all the specs etc.im not selling this engine. it's stayin with the bike.scratch the idea on the dremel port and polish. it just sounded stupid to begin with.[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 11:31 PM. 1/23/2008 11:57:15 PM
less than u charge for blow jobs.
1/24/2008 12:14:36 AM
you ever fuckin considered not wasting money on shitty projects and just saving up to buy something decent?all you do is buy shit, fuck it up worse, complain about it never running and how fucked up it is, dump more money into it, then sell it for a loss to an even bigger idiot

1/28/2008 9:26:38 PM
why not do your own port and polish? you have a head to practice on. the grinding kits for a port and polish are like 30 bucks from standard abrasive.

I'm extremely leery of any engine in which the valves kiss the pistons. Ever heard of distorting ring lands to the point that the rings never seal perfectly? It happens. And you'll never really know just what kind of condition the pistons are in unless you xray them. That said, I ran the cowboy dog shit out of an Integra engine that I scabbed together using a bottom end from a cam sprocket casualty engine and another head from a spun rod engine. It did use more oil than it should have, despite new rings and a hone job.The only decent way to hone one of these engines is using a Sunnen honing machine and then file-fitting each individual ring. Better yet, use a bore mike with an additional vernier scale and get the pistons to fit.
