WORDS

poor bastard, i was just reading about his death. i bet he took too much ambien and it STILL didn't work (they should take that shit off the market) and he was hallucinating and shit, and probably fucking with him. and i bet he started popping valiums and xanax hoping to go to sleep and get the devil out of his closet (the devil was in my closet when i was taking ambien)

seriously, that stuff (ambien) has some INSANE side effects if you take too much. if enough is taken, its just as vivid and crazy as LSD. the problem is, when people take LSD, they expect to see little munchkins and shit. when they take ambien, they expect to pass out. and when they start hallucinating, it leads them to think they're crazy, and they can't distinguish reality from the drug.

just my theory, but i bet the cause of death is not ambien. gonna be lethal dose of diazepam/valium or alprazolam/xanax, used in an effort to counteract the ambien. hell, it wouldnt surprise me took 2 or 3 ambien out of desperation to sleep and ended up tripping so hard he killed himself with the other stuff

either way i hope they take ambien off the market, or at least make it harder to get. it works for some people, but if it doesnt work for you it can fuck your shit up and make you crazy.

THEEND

i just got prescribed ambien last week. i love it so far.

that being said, its prescribed at specific doses for a reason. there are a lot of drugs out there that can cause you to go batshit if you take too much. i dont see that as a reason for taking it off the market.

I know nothing about the drug but this is taken from another site I frequent:

JACKLEG has a point. i don't think the guy purposely off'd himself. i think it was an accident. he was probably showering or getting dressed which may explain the nakedness.

"At the time of his death, Ledger had just finished playing the villain The Joker in "The Dark Knight," the latest installment in the Batman series. The film is to open in July.

The role disturbed him, according to The Associated Press. He called The Joker a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

"Last week, I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told The New York Times. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going."

He said prescription sleeping pills didn't help, according to AP.

brad, i guess it didnt come across the way i wanted it to i guess. i think its definitely good for people who:

a) it works for
b) take it and get in bed

but it doesnt work for some people, and if you stay up after its kicked in, it can fuck you up easily worse than mushrooms, somewhere closer to LSD. and in my experience, unexpected trips are usually bad trips. if it actually works on you, then you might not experience the terrible side effects it can have

anyways, you're right, and i don't think they should totally remove it, because it does definitely have a therapeutic use for some people. i just think that it should be the doctor's responsibility to CLOSELY monitor the patient after prescribing it, like speaking with them for the first few days afterwards and stuff like that. instead of the once a month (or once per 6 months) method that some of them do....

in my opinion thats very true, but he also had xanax and valium, which can kill you off pretty easily.

thats even more evidence to support the jackleg ambien theory. if it doesnt make you sleep, it makes you trip. HARD.

the theory is pretty good, good enough that you could find a lot of other people, like that girl who was raped while sleep walking on ambien and threaten to sue the shit out of the pharmaceutical company that manufactures ambien.

Damn I opened this thread and the show I was watching on my computer (trying to catch up on Atlantis) started talking about a character having what they thought was a bad reaction to Ambien. Hallucinations and shit. Helluva coincidence.

Yeah...I agree with your blog post jackleg! My old roommate used to take ambien with her depression medicine and she would go completely nutso! I would get so scared sometimes that I would lock my room door. She finally stopped taking it.

haha it would be a fun job, but i'd never make it through all the school. unless they develop a new type of school that fits my personality or something

anyways i think i'm being misinterpreted when i say they should take it off the market. my opinion is that it should be regulated more. i've personally known about the bad side effects for like 8 years or so, and im sure the makers have too. (which is why they basically say take it IN BED and dont take it unless you have 8 hours to devote to staying in bed) but i dont think anyone should really go around suing the maker. if anything, they should pressure congress to investigate stuff like this instead of like who is using steroids or why jarvik is pushing lipitor.

ambien can cause almost immediate psychosis, especially if someone takes a double dose cause it didnt "work" the first time. even if he did kill himself, i doubt he was "aware".

theres an article out there somewhere that i read... it said that he tried double dosing, and woke up an hour later with his "mind racing".

^^ You are a natural man.

You just convinced me that you wouldn't care about any monetary settlement and that you are really just concerned with helping people.

You could have a jury eating out of your hands.

But of course, the only way to get these giant and rich companies to respond is to hurt them monetarily, so you still need to ask for a huge award, but just to get you point across.

if anything, people need to aware of the effects of taking too much of this drug. lots of drugs have unintended consequences if too much is taken....often times being the opposite of what the drug is intended for. i know in my literature it was made pretty clear not to double doses and not to chew up or crush the pill....but i guess thats not enough for some people.

im glad its worked for me though. no problems so far.

yeah, gunzz, i used to "abuse" it for the hallucinogenic effects. all *I* had to do is basically take it and not go to bed and within an hour, the stuff in pictures on the wall would start coming out into our apartment.

i don't know if its the same for all people, but i can only imagine the horror for people who arent expecting that shit. and basically the only way to get those effects is to not go to sleep.... or maybe if it "doesnt work"

also, does anyone have a definite answer to this question: were there pills scattered around the apartment?

one source ( http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23097344-5001021,00.html?from=mostpop ) says:

Quote :
"Commissioner Browne wouldn't elaborate on what the pills were but said that they included sleeping pills.

"There were some still left in the bottle," he said. "They were not scattered around the apartment.""

the same article links to [the same source] http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23097079-5001021,00.html

and it says:

Quote :
"According the New York Police Department, sleeping pills were found scattered around Ledger's dead body."

I was telling my friends mom (she is an ER nurse) about how it was affecting our roommate and she said they don't mix ambien with other depression meds bc of the effects. She was appalled that my friend's doctor prescribed this mix.

cnn.com said that the police investigator found the pill bottle in his room, but the pills were NOT scattered around the room as were reported previously

Quote :
"Browne later told reporters some prescription medications were found in the room, including sleeping pills. He said the pills were not "scattered around," as had been reported. "

yeah punchmonk the side effects on that stuff can be pretty serious.

valium and especially xanax can easily induce amnesia, and that could make the person forget that they just took some. that can be dangerous by itself. not to mention throwing some ambien in there and being potentially psychotic...

i know the ambien people probably put a lot of money into making ambien, but maybe the doctors should try some of the other drugs that supposedly dont have as many side effects.

quick question for the ambien patients, did your doctor ever try lunesta or sonata? anyone ever have any of the crazy side effects off either of those? even though ambien works for a lot of people, i'm wodering if the other stuff would work, or if ambien is used as a last resort.

yeah drod ive read those articles, thats where i got the one that said he doubled his dose and he was awake an hour later with his mind racing (another part you left off your quote). thats another big part of why i think what i do, saying that his mind was racing seems to be a reference to abnormal thinking as opposed to still being awake. i dunno

the first quote you posted is a fuller quote than the one i saw from the investigator about the pills being unscattered. are you reading it to mean that perhaps he was miquoted somewhere else (resulting in the 2 quotes i posted?) -- yours seems to be the same as the second one i posted, except with more of the quote still intact than the quote i read in the australian media

i've tried lunesta but never tried to stay up after taking them like ive tried with ambien so i dont really know. the lunesta took longer to "kick in" for me compared to ambien starting about 20 minutes after taking it

the ambien time release is the best IMO for the desired results

ah, so i guess they all have the potential to cause hallucinations. thats pretty scary, now i definitely think they should look into the whole industry and how its prescribed. i know that they do valium and adderall and stuff like that in 6 month blocks, without having to speak to the doctor for 6 whole months after getting on the medicine.

anyways. ill be back to discuss my theory soon!

nope, ambien was the first, and its the only sleeping pill ive been prescribed. my sleeping problem was two fold...i had trouble going to sleep and problems staying asleep thanks to a cpap machine i have to use to counteract my sleep apnea.

i was told to use ambien cr for two weeks so that my body would get used to sleeping throughout the night. my doctor made it seem like ambien was the best option out there for doing that without causing dependency.

I just think that someone came out with a report early saying that the pills were scattered around the room, and the investigator in my quote was setting the record straight

If he was tripped out on Ambien because it wouldn't make him sleep, there's no telling how much of anything he might have taken.

ambien is awesome. so is temazepam. i hate taking all the medicine i do, but without it (even with counseling) im a trainwreck. my insomnia has been troubling me for about 3 months, and the dr finally decided to prescribe something.

i agree that if you're not "ready" to sleep and you take a sleeping pill you start feeling good. my girlfriend has said that ive gotten up at night and started having conversations with people. i dont remember this at all, but if it happened that's pretty creepy.

My roommate would laugh and talk the whole time with no one. Then when my other roommates and I would put her to bed (it took all three of us) she would be obssessed about closing all doors and windows, including the doors on her jewlery box, or she would FREAK OUT! Then we would have to do it all over again when she would stumble down the stairs talking to no one, again.

I hate ambien.

I took a few of them over a period of a couple weeks. The first time I felt a little weird, but didn't think much of it. Then I had a headache and felt lightheaded the next day but didn't relate it to the ambien. Every time I took it, it got progressively worse and by the third or fourth one, within 20 minutes of taking it I had a killer headache and was nauseous for a couple days. Never took it again, obviously.

Besides all that, the shit didn't even put me to sleep that well.

the normal dosage doesn't do anything for me. the doctor increased the dosage, but he wasn't comfortable prescribing a dosage that high. he switched me to temazepam which has worked very well. it eliminated the night talking problem.

Since we're telling ambien stories...

Back in high school a guy I knew took ambien (he didn't know it was ambien) before class. He slept some of the time, but every once in a while he'd just start talking, and at one point he got out of his desk, picked it up, turned it around, sat back down, and went back to sleep facing the back wall. When asked about it at lunch (he was still a bit trippy), the story basically sounded like "Well, when that guy brought the dog into the room, I was wondering what happened, but then we were all at the beach and you two were acting weird, but then all the SNAKES came, and that was fucking scary."

exactly. those by themselves, is almost impossible to cause death. OTC ones cause you to get hyped up if you over take them, and again can't get to the concentrations high enough to cause death.

probably arose from some sort of interaction between several drugs, prescription or otherwise

racing thoughts are a typical symptom of anxiety/depression

"Police found a rolled up $20 bill with "narcotic residue" on it in the apartment where Heath Ledger was found dead yesterday, according to CBS News:

Sources add they also found several drug packets containing an unknown substance. CBS 2 has learned these items were all listed on the official police report from the scene.
To be clear, it's still unknown whether these items belonged to Ledger or whether he even actually ingested them"

it was trippy as shit, especially considering he's a deity or whatever

SO MAYBE IT WASN'T A HALLUCINATION???????????
