So, I just got my car back from the body shop, and had my hood finished.I was going for a car bra look with the paint. The paint was supposed to be 'carbon look'.As you can see, the 'carbon look' came out well, but it is very inconsistent.I will get better pictures tomorrow in the sun.My options/ your opinion:A. I like it, but have it redoneB. I like it, and leave itC. I like the concept, paint the bra blackD. I hate it, color match it to the carI just want opinions. I already have my own but want to see what people think.

E: Buy an actual bra
1/20/2008 9:09:12 PM
how they do that with paint
1/20/2008 9:11:52 PM
whats the point of a car bra again? i seem to have forgotten since i last saw one on a car in 1994
1/20/2008 9:31:47 PM
For a CF look in paint:1. Lay down a base coat of whatever bottom color2. Lay down a matt with 1/8'' or 1/4'' block openings3. Wrap the painting area tightly4. Spray black over the matt5. Scuff with scotch bright pad in angles to make a fibrous look.6. Clear coatA car bra prevents rock chips in the paint when driving.
1/20/2008 9:37:07 PM
Why would you do that to a car in the first place?
1/20/2008 9:37:49 PM
1/20/2008 9:47:24 PM
straight up goofy
1/20/2008 10:05:09 PM
D. Just paint it. The black intercooler looks good.
1/20/2008 10:05:41 PM
You did a good job with the effect, I just don't like it.You could fade the carbon to black flames at the back to try and save it.
1/20/2008 10:54:29 PM
looks good, but not not my taste. i vote for d.^and definitely don't put black flames on it

Might look better with the whole hood as one color, option D.What you've done is kind of neat and you did a good job with it, but it'll look much cleaner (I think) if it was just straight one color.I think the bra look is pointless if you're not going to put a bra on it proper.

i don't like it either. color match it. if you're just looking for some protection, go with the clear stuff gk2004 mentioned.
1/21/2008 1:56:15 AM
I like it, but I think it would look better color-matched. I'm not a big fan of eyelids, but this looks great (minus the CF).
1/21/2008 2:07:00 AM
These aren't eye lids. This is a metal extension that drops the whole front of the hood almost 2.5 inches.
1/21/2008 11:28:54 AM
Looks like a decal wrinkled at the front
1/21/2008 11:43:14 AM
I think if you made the CF look taper into the gray or taper into ghost flames it could look cool. otherwise just paint it solid gray. play around with photoshop, don't waste money painting all these ideas into reality.also, take the black "stealth coat" off the intercooler. you aint hidin shit with those pipes let the bling hang out.[Edited on January 21, 2008 at 12:31 PM. Reason : d]

That isn't a stealth coat on the intercooler. It is anodized black. I didn't add it, it came that way. I ordered a silver one, but that is what I got, and I'm not complaining because it hides nicely behind the grill when it is in.

paint the hood.
1/21/2008 3:34:01 PM
haha, wow. This is one of the dumber things I have seen someone do to a car.
1/21/2008 3:46:40 PM
I'd just paint it all one color. There is a fine line between looking classy and looking ricey. You're pushing it with the fake carbon fiber. Let the lines of the car do the talking.[Edited on January 21, 2008 at 3:52 PM. Reason : s]

Here are some more pictures from today.I'm trying to decide if I am going to color match or go with a different shade of grey.
1/21/2008 5:43:55 PM
color match it. the purpose of installing a c/f hood is for weight reduction. you don't put one on only to add a big speaker box and leave it unpainted so people can say, "he's got a c/f hood".
1/21/2008 5:52:13 PM
kinda reminds me of a ricer friend of mine [Edited on January 21, 2008 at 6:07 PM. Reason : otaku.... was it?]
1/21/2008 6:06:16 PM
i like the concept of putting something on the front but i also like the whole one solid color conceptthe right idea would be kickass but goodluck thinking of it

D paint it, it looks TERRIBLE as-isif you still want the CF look, get it painted thin a-la F40/F50 so you can make out the CF pattern underneath it.[Edited on January 21, 2008 at 9:41 PM. Reason : .]
1/21/2008 9:41:09 PM
seeing the carbon fiber through the thin F40 paint is one of the coolest things ive seen on a ferrari
1/21/2008 10:34:11 PM
D, sry

1/22/2008 11:31:43 AM
if i saw that in a parking lot, i'd be like "wtf" because the paint looks like a vinyl decal. i think it would look good the same color as the car.[Edited on January 22, 2008 at 2:44 PM. Reason : rephrase]
1/22/2008 2:43:32 PM
looks like crappaint it stock

the hood is steel, right?you VW lvrs....Olive drab the entire car, wheels flat black. this, in white and black, on the hood:[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 12:30 PM. Reason : -]

D... Although the CF look did turn out better than I would have imagined (well, in picture... might be different in person), IMO it isn't accenting the car's lines in any way. Maybe it would have turned out better/been more attractive if you had done the full center of the hood (following the natural lines), leaving the two sides to match the car color & then continued to integrate the look throughout the car's exterior with well placed small accents. As of now it just looks pointless (like the CF mirrors the old owner put on my SV... but atleast he was trying to match the exhaust.. ).
1/23/2008 4:33:35 PM
all one color. either dark or matched. that cf stuff looks tacky. like the fake stuff they put on motorcycles
