you're both partly right and partly wrong

in this reality, the 4th dimension is time, in which 3d objects occupy space in a time flow. (simplistic)

0d is a point, 1d takes the point and pulls it making a line, 2d takes that line and pulls it in a direction creating a plane, 3d takes that plane and pulls it in a direction creating a volume, 4d takes that volume and pulls it in a direction (time in this case) to create a space-time object.
