Hey I tried searching old posts for suggested places to get a car inspection but didn't come up with much.

The tread is wearing down on my tires and I won't be able to get even a used set for a while. I'd had to fail an inspection because someone was anal about that.

I also have a misfire that's being caused by something strange. But I'd like to pass my inspection first because I'm sure that will take some time and money to take care of. (it's not the usual tune-up)

Can someone suggest a lenient inspection center? Thanks.

yeah, i'm sure you'll find tons of people willing to risk their job as well as fines just to make sure you pass inspection.

the misfire isn't really a big deal, but driving around on bald/damaged tires isn't something to dick around with. especially should something happen and it comes out that you just recently got an illegal inspection.

Guys, I understand the importance of safety on the road. I've always kept my vehicle in safe condition. I would hate to have any sort of failure puttint myself or anyone else in danger. What I can't stand is an unsafe driver or vehicle. That falls under the same category as drunk driver if you knowingly endanger life.

My tires are in alright condition right now. My estimate is that they have about 3-5k miles left before needing to be retired. The misfire is no big deal, just a little rumble during idle. But of course it's triggering the CEL.

I hope that all stations take inspections seriously, but there are some that are unfairly strict even when the equipment being judged is in perfectly safe condition. I'm not asking for anyone to lie for me. I wouldn't allow that. But I do want to avoid failing an inspection unfairly.

The quick version-

The tires treaddepth must be at least 2/32nds, measured evenly across the tire. And the misfire, you gotta get that taken care of, there is no way around it. Noone can pass your emissions inspection if your vehicle's readiness faults are present- and when a CEL is set then the inspection machine sees the vehicle as "not ready".

We have all been through tough times before, some of us still are, but owning a operating a vehicle is a privledge and not a right. If you cannot afford to keep the vehicle on the road properly, then either sell it or take it off the road until you can.

I hate that readiness shit. I was getting misfire codes on a couple cylinders, replaced the plus and wires, and had advance to reset the codes. Needless to say I went straight to have it inspected afterwards and had a couple things that showed up as "Not Ready". After a trip home to wilmington and back, everything was fine when I took it back to get it inspected. And the geniuses at Jiffy Lube only charged me for the sticker.

Actually..........a misfire won't cause a not ready, it will just trigger the MIL command.
