so I've got a nice TV. Time Warner HD box. had it running component cable for a bit, with analog audio. got an HDMI cable yesterday for the outfit, and it's supposed to also run optical audio, correct? well, there's no audio. i heard there's a way to fix this. I can't figure it out. I've got an awesome picture, but no audio. and, also, on a similar note, if I cut my TV off, or switch inputs (say, to my ps3), when i get back to my cable input, it brings up a yellow box that says something like "TV doesnt work with HDMI blah blah blah," and i have to reset my box. i've had to do it about 4-5 times now. got any ideas?

PLZ2HALP^the only option it gives me is "digital" which is what i ought to have it on. and, btw, I've got the HDMI cable from the ps3, and that audio works great.[Edited on January 20, 2008 at 11:13 AM. Reason : asfklahsfkl]

do you have an Explorer 8300 HDC box?

4250HDC

everything i've seen on the internet says that box doesn't do well with HDMI (i just googled 4250HDC hdmi audio)i'm not a professional about it, but you might have to get a newer box. i know the 8300HDCs suck but they'll more likely work with hdmi. otherwise, twc will probably just tell you to use component cable, which doesn't really solve the problem.you can poke around on http://www.avsforum.com/ and see if they have anything, or there's a few threads on tech talk. i don't recall anyone citing a 4250 but it couldn't hurt to bump one of the threads with it.good luck.

you didn't get the cable guy to install it for you?

^nah, it's pretty standard fare, running cables. i've been doing stuff like this for about 10 years on my own. ^^i also read some forums, and basically it looks like TWC has no idea how their products work/don't work.

looks like i might just have to get a DVR box.

you people and your fancy man toys.
1/20/2008 2:22:03 PM
are you in europe? do you need an adapter?the DVR box is worth it...
1/20/2008 2:22:11 PM
adaptor? i dunno. i just read up on a lot of forums that there are a LOT of issues with TWC boxes and the application of HDMI cables. it pretty much looks like I gotta get a DVR box, because it's apparently the only one that's compatible for full HDMI use (audio).

fcc regs state that all ports/options have to be enabled, so holla at TWC about that...they are obligated to make it work.

is that new? because everything i've read in which others have the same gripe is that, basically, "TWC is working on it". but the only option right now is the DVR box for full HDMI compatibility.
