My Daddy and I went turkey hunting today in Rockingham county. We were expecting snow, of course, and basically found nothing. When we went to eat lunch at my Aunt's, I saw the first snowflake! So, we ate lunch, I took a nap, and we went on home before the roads got bad. On the way home we saw a whole flock of turkeys so we pulled over at the church and walked through a patch of woods to get closer to them. (We left the guns in the truck, duh, we don't poach.)Someone, please embed these. I know this is kinda off topic, but did you see Alien vs Predator 2, in the beginning a guy and his kid are hunting and not wearing any blaze orange. when I hike in hunting season I make sure to wear enough blaze orange to look like the dorkiest non-animal there ever was
1/19/2008 8:01:38 PM
No, I've never seen the movie. But that is very smart of you to wear orange when hiking. You never know when someone will jump the gun and shoot at anything moving! My Daddy was almost shot one time during turkey season on the Caswell Co. Game Lands. Some dumbass guy with no business having a hunting license - much less owning a gun! - shot at my Daddy's HEN DECOY DURING A MALE OR BEARDED BIRD ONLY SEASON!!!!! Because it was an election year and the judge was very unpopular with a certain group of people who just so happened to pack the courthouse that day - the case was dropped and nothing at all happened to those two dumbasses. so, are you done with turkey season now? i'm not sure if we have a turkey season or not right now. i know that i will be going sometime in april. i'm pretty sure our season comes in around that time.i haven't ever called one in and killed one 'the right way', so maybe this year. keep us posted on whether you get one or not.

The season was only from Monday to today and only for 10 counties. We hunted in Rockingham County today. It's the only either-sex season we get in the state. The male/bearded season comes in April 12 - May 10. And I can't wait for that one too!! [Edited on January 19, 2008 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ]

don't have to wear blaze orange when turkey hunting. or duck or dove hunting for that matter.[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 11:54 PM. Reason : orr]

No, because turkeys see color distinctly. You would never get a turkey close enough to you if you had blaze orange on. Same thing about geese and dove, too. If you've ever gone goose hunting, you know how important it is to let them get as close as possible before you start shooting! Or, if you've ever watched duck/goose hunting on tv - they lay in those personal blinds and when the duck/goose gets in shotgun range, you throw the blind open, sit up, and shoot. Because they see color (and movement) so well. When you turkey hunt, I don't know if you know this, but you should always wear a face net, because the white of your face can be enough to spook them away.
