i guess i'm slightly tooting my own horn here, but i have a question nonetheless.

i recently bought this car, and went with the automatic transmission. i expect to catch crap for this, but i drive a manual all day long in my company vehicle and i just want to relax in my car. it does have autostick if i get antsy.

i know that that auto models have a significant cut in hp, and i was wondering if there are any ways to increase my power without doing dumb shit to such a nice car, i.e exhaust, cold air intake, etc. is it just detuned, and if so could i modify software or a chip or some such?

i'm dumb for even thinking of messing with it, but its late and this is just for gits and shiggles anyway. thanks.

I'm not so sure that's the case.

Yeah, you lose a whole bunch of horsepower/torque to the wheels due to the torque converter. Try googling for the chip, I bet there's one out there.

first of all you should not have a "significant cut in hp" due to the automatic, 5-10hp at max im guessing. The main problem with the auto is that you cannot easily get into the powerband. I would search thoes forms, but i would say adding a CAI wouldnt be a bad idea and wouldnt be ricer. It would also increase you MPG's.

I drive a saab 9-3 - for our car the most popular enhancement is the BSR PPC. Basically you can tune/de-tune the car by a plug-in device, if your car was still under warranty and you were worried about it none of the techs so far have detected. i am sure they COULD, but nobody has reported any issues with warranty in the saab world.

pretty good boost in HP and Torque and when priced out its much more bang for the buck than exhaust, suspension or anything like that.

edit - sorry, did not make it clear... this product is made for both saab and volvo cars. hit up google and your model... you will find plenty on it.

edit 2 - this was a site SOME saab people used (there is a better one for US saab drivers so you may want to see if there is someone volvo people recommened) with no complaints:

Apparently this guy with an s60r bought it from there:

there's a whole lot of stupid in this thread.

no, they don't. at most you have a few HP difference at the wheels..and in some cars the shift times in an automatic make up for the slight difference in HP to the wheels and actually yield a faster car.. They use the same engine so hp at the engine is the same. there's no way you can shift as fast as an auto can.

are you calling exhaust/CAI/etc dumb shit or giving those as some options you are considering? most software mods aren't worth it on a stock gasoline engine. they'll claim 20+HP increase but really all it's doing is making it shift harder and maybe changing ignition timing a little and leaning out the fuel/air mixtures a bit. yea it might add a little bit of power but really it's not worth it

Anyways, which engine does your car have? I'm not sure I'd do anything to it, but checking the forum posted above is a MUCH better starting point than this forum. Not to mention half the garage got suspended last night for the whole sports talk forum take over

BSR PPC is a Very popular choice among the sweedish cars... I have seen several before/after dyno runs that support their claims... most of them actually showed a slightly higher increase than stated. Yes, they do simply adjust the timing - but well under the cars limits. The upgrages go to stage 5... he would be more than happy with stage 1.

^^ the volvo he bought is a turbo

higher boost = higher hp, even on a stock gasoline engine

actually i misread, it is a cut in torque from 295 down to 268. i'd just like to keep my car as stock as possible because it's been my experience that as soon as you start slapping aftermarket stuff on to your car bad things begin to happen.

thanks for the forum links btw.

yep.

i'm all about modified cars, but in this case, if you want more performance, sell it and buy something with more performance.

Just cause no one does it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done...

there are a few 350-400 whp s60rs and v70rs running around...

Just because you bought an un-original car to modify doesn't mean everyone should.

^^if he wants a sports sedan then there's nothing wrong with raising the boost on what he's got.
