seems like these programs are getting cut/underfunded worse than a lot of other "minor" sports in college. am I right?

probably the same amount of people who care about other sports like Cross Country, golf, gymnastics, swimming, etc. But like Zom said, since there is no direct female equivalent, wrestling is usually the first to go when somebody sues over title IX compliance. For most other sports (except, of course, football), there is a male and female team, so even most of the hardcore feminists would admit that it would be wrong to cut, for example, the Men's XC team but leave the Womens XC team, just to get into Title IX compliance.

my wrestling coach in high school used to tell us how ECU had a pretty badass wrestling team (at least for a non-midwest state) and then it got completely axed by title 9. We wrestled on their refurbished mat

IF wrestling were like WWF then it would be awesome. RBC center would be like NCSU v UNC in a tag team effortthat would sell out
