In my opinion they would both be better off if Vandy went to the ACC and NC State or FSU went to the SEC. I have never felt Vandy has fit into the SEC way of things, and its a small school, much like some ACC schools. NCSU and FSU in my eyes have always come across as more of an SEC type school. Bigger schools and more sports intensive. FSU more so than NCSU. NCSU basketball could get out of the shadow of UNC Duke, and I think would be a very respectable SEC power. And FSU football in the SEC would really spark up the already best conference in college football.Thoughts?

nc state should join the wnba
1/16/2008 11:27:48 PM
we sort of were a founding member of the acc.i agree with ERNOLD[Edited on January 16, 2008 at 11:28 PM. Reason : k]
1/16/2008 11:28:30 PM
Maybe we can start our own conference where we are the only members and then we can hang a banner every year.
1/16/2008 11:30:08 PM
Well wasn't Boston College a founding member of the Big East? And they moved. And I promise, this is 100% not a troll thread. I have always thought that FSU was a more traditional SEC type school, and NCSU kinda falls into that category too. Its just a suggestion, not bashing any program, school, or anything.
1/16/2008 11:31:36 PM
the big east was founded in 1980, the acc in 1954, the big east is not the accthe sec is football-centric, the acc and nc state are basketball-centricnc state has no place in the sec
1/16/2008 11:34:31 PM
So any thoughts on FSU? They have never fit into the ACC in my eyes.
1/16/2008 11:37:29 PM
jaybee will have much to say on this matter
1/16/2008 11:37:37 PM
we would go 0-8 in footballand somehow find a way to be mediocre in basketball

didn't arkansas and south carolina join the SEC in 1991, the same year florida st. joined the ACC?i'd like to know the story of why they ended up here and not in the SEC
1/16/2008 11:51:54 PM
For some reason, maybe its just location, I can't tell, but I just think of Arkansas being a Big 12 team.^Yes, every school in the SEC is a founding member, except USC and Arkansas who joined in 1991. I was not aware of that till I just looked it up on Wiki.[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 12:08 AM. Reason : /]

well they were formerly a member of the southwest conference with all the texas schools

1/17/2008 12:01:53 AM
Well that's probably b/c Arkansas used to be in the Southwest Conference with Texas, TAMU, Baylor, and Texas Tech. They had a good rivalry with Texas back in the day. I believe FSU went to the ACC b/c of the academic reputation that the conference had, and the FSU presidents wanted to improve how they were seen in that realm. Also I think I remember hearing the SEC was giving FSU the run around for a long time so FSU got fed up with them and joined the ACC once they came a calling.
1/17/2008 12:03:21 AM
Vandy switch with Clemson. There you go.Clemson has SEC written all over them.
1/17/2008 12:03:39 AM
i knew money was the motivation for FSU joining a conference but i never knew they were courted by the SECpretty interesting
1/17/2008 12:04:36 AM
No we should give them BC and take Florida, b/c then we'd have a monopoly on the Sunshine State.
1/17/2008 12:04:54 AM
Miami def. couldnt go SEC. they lost to ohio st. in a bowl game.
1/17/2008 12:05:35 AM
i'd be willing to give up any of the expansion schools if it meant we'd get a home-and-away basketball schedule
1/17/2008 12:06:10 AM
i'd be willing for you to shut the fuck up.
1/17/2008 12:07:17 AM
FSU was invited to the SEC but they were fucking pussies and knew they would win the conference for pretty much a decade at least if they went to the ACC
1/17/2008 12:08:34 AM
It was a huge deal when I was growing up. People in the SEC were really pissed when FSU went to the ACC. There were t-shirts made making fun of FSU but it made more sense to FSU. Easier road to a mjor bowl tie-in, more bball money. Pretty easy decision for FSU especially since they retained the yearly matchup with Florida even after joining the ac. It was actually a no brainer for them. Especially since they DOMINATED the ACC in football for about a decade. That wouldnt have happened in the sec.

1/17/2008 12:12:24 AM
The SEC could almost divide in half, pick up some scrub teams from various conferences to form a full conference for both, and both of the SEC conferences would still be the top 2 or 3 in the nation as far as football is concerned.[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 12:24 AM. Reason : .]

If any school in the ACC seems to me like an SEC school it would be GT or Clemson.
1/17/2008 12:33:48 AM
GT and Clemson seem like typical ACC schools to me. GT more than Clemson.

Whats the one big play that NCSU fans keep claiming happened? As an OSU fan, I have never heard any dispute about that game vs Miami.
1/17/2008 2:11:53 AM
okay i'll bite and post as if this were a serious threadfsu and clemson would make sense in the sec, not really ncsu. our football team kindof sucks terribly and our fanbase size isn't on par either (save vandy).
1/17/2008 2:29:22 AM
You should not reply to troll threadsI made the mistake onceNow look where it got me
1/17/2008 3:19:52 AM
um, Tennessee is not on the atlantic coast.
1/17/2008 8:04:04 AM
Also needs be said that USC was a founding member of the ACC; they left in 1971 to become an independent, then joined the Metro Conference in 1983 and finally to the SEC in 1991.FSU also left the Metro Conference in '91 and ended up here, as Ernie mentioned. I'm assuming they wanted to be guaranteed to be one of the top football programs in the conference consistently?
1/17/2008 8:58:13 AM
florida st. was indepenent in football, though, which is what i was talking about--the only thing i remember from the miami/osu game that was somewhat controversial was the pass interference call in overtime that came way late[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 1:25 PM. Reason : ]

I'd like to send UNC to the SECthey'd probalby be duking it out with Kentucky ever year for the title, instead of Duke like they do nowbut oh boy the football blowouts would be fun to watch...and i do mean BLOWOUTS
1/17/2008 1:24:37 PM
stupid thread
1/17/2008 1:25:45 PM
I would love to be in the SEC.
1/17/2008 9:24:59 PM
Yeah let's go to a conference where you have fans that love jorts way too much (UF), have rednecks that bark like a dog even in the grocery store (UGA), have redneck fans that blast "Sweet Home Alabama" over and over again at youth sporting events all while yelling Roll Tide (Alabama), do pig calls (Arkansas), wear shirts that say "COCKS" across them (USC) and have a fascination with keeping the Confederate Flag flying (USC and Ole Miss). Yeah let's join the conference that has for the most part sub-par academic standards compared to the ACC. Besides the UNC school system requires more than the NCAA, so we would be handicapped already. So why not stay in the ACC where there are a lot of other schools that impose stricter requirements on their athletes than the bare minimum. I mean you see how hard Vandy has it trying to compete in the SEC with their academic requirements.I think the SEC has some of the best tailgating and atmospheres in college football, college basketball not so much. I don't really feel like having to deal with even more rednecks than I currently have to deal with when I go to away games. There are rednecks in North Carolina, but it's not on the level of a lot of the states in the SEC. This state has always not been real gung ho about Southern Pride like the other Southern states. Remember we were the last Southern state to secede from the union (mainly b/c we were surrounded), and we weren't a state that relied on slavery as much as the others. And talk about arrogance, we've always been a little arrogant about thinking we are the best state in the South, both in terms of the land, the people, our universities, the culture, etc. I mean I've heard so many jokes from people that live here about other Southern states, especially South Carolina. Like this for example, "what happens when a person from North Carolina crosses the border into South Carolina? The average IQ of the state increases 15 points." Stuff like that. We talk about how we have the distinction of having the mountains, the plains, the beaches, decent sized metros that are great to work and raise a family in, the best Bar-B-Q, the best weather, the best college basketball, etc. all in one state. It's kind of hard to argue with them considering how many have moved to this state, and the retired Northerners known as "half-backers" move to Florida, discover it's too hot for them and move half-way back (which is how they get that connotation) by coming to North Carolina. A ton of people, even those that don't live here, think we are the mecca for college basketball. Then for the rednecks we have NASCAR. Believe it or not the North Carolina schools run the ACC and we like it that way.

1/17/2008 10:27:20 PM
Yeah definitely not in football. But we did get the championship game to come to Charlotte in a few years. Basically what I meant was that the North Carolina schools have a lot of pull when it comes to decisions that the conference makes.[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 10:29 PM. Reason : ]
1/17/2008 10:28:43 PM
I just think it is because the state is centrally located in the conference that there is some pull.. this is a stupid thread.
1/17/2008 10:31:35 PM
How is it a stupid thread? Its not like its ever going to happen, but its interesting to discuss.
