http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/orl-lee1408jan14,0,535784.story?track=rssXavier Lee won't return to Florida StateAndrew Carter | Sentinel Staff Writer January 14, 2008 The tumultuous Xavier Lee era -- at most times baffling and in rare moments brilliant -- is over at Florida State.Lee, the former quarterback at Daytona Beach Seabreeze High who became one of the best high school football players in state history, is not enrolled in classes at Florida State and will not return for his senior season, according to his parents.Lee's father, Willie, told the Sentinel Sunday that his son decided to leave the program when FSU coaches informed him that he would no longer play quarterback. According to Willie Lee, Seminoles offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher recently asked Xavier Lee to move to tight end.Willie Lee said his son, a redshirt junior, will not transfer to another school and instead will prepare for a probable invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, where Lee will hope to catch the notice of scouts and improve his stock for the NFL draft."Can't blame him, man," Willie Lee said of his son's decision to leave school. "What else is he going to do -- sit around there and watch other kids go ahead of him?"Xavier Lee arrived in 2004 at FSU as one of most heralded recruits in the program's history. Yet his years at FSU were marred by disappointment amid great expectations. He redshirted his first season and then spent most of the next three on the bench, despite occasional flashes of greatness. On Sept. 29 in Jacksonville, Lee relieved starter Drew Weatherford and led the Seminoles to a victory against Alabama -- a victory at the time that seemed to be a turning point for Lee. He started the team's next three games but then found himself on the bench again after throwing two interceptions and fumbling twice during FSU's loss against Miami on Oct. 20.Lee's mother, Gloria, told the Sentinel on Sunday that she has been "heartbroken" by her son's turbulent FSU career."As a single parent, I'm pretty much upset, heartbroken, because of the situation they put him in and how they treated him over the years," Gloria Lee said. After that Miami game, Lee -- who started six games for the Seminoles during the past three years -- never saw the field again. He also was suspended for two games in November for missing too many classes. After the regular season ended, Lee told reporters he had "finished up well" in the classroom and that he would be eligible to play in the Music City Bowl. But the team traveled to Nashville, Tenn., without Lee, and his future with the program had been a mystery since.

He couldn't transfer anyway unless he went down to D-1 AA or lower because he is already a redshirt junior.

Typical "everyone told us our son was going to be amazing and make us millions but those terrible coaches treated him unfairly and it's all their fault" shit. What is he going to do when the NFL tells him to play wr/te? Head to the arena league?

This is probably a good decision. You weren't good enough to play QB at FSU, so you'll probably make it in the league. Good luck in the CFL

wow... I didn't wanna believe he was gonna try and go pro. He'd talked about it, and he was really unhappy with the way the FSU coaches treated him, but I thought he'd try to transfer to a smaller school like whatshisface from Oklahoma so that he could put up some nice numbers for a full season.

i think his parents are going to sue Florida State University Athletics for 40 acres and a mule

I hate college football but i saw this kid play 2-3 games at FSU and he couldnt complete a pass. Not only did he have no idea where the receivers were it looked like he probably couldn't count to 5.Against State he went like 0-8 on three possessions before they yanked him for embarrassing the conference.Jay Davis was a better quarterback than this kid.Not kidding.

he's taking it easy, Champ. Sitting this next one out.
