Who in history has ever mailed a textbook for 2.49. The envelopes are 2.00 and shipping by media mail is like $4.XX.

Furthermore why would anyone want a textbook shipped media mail which takes like a week, when priority is like $2.00 more and gets there in two days.

Given that you can mail a 2.5lb book from California to campus for $4.60 priority mail, I call bullshit on it costing $4 for media mail. Whenever I ship books (granted, not textbooks, but not always small paperback books), it's never cost more than a dollar.


I sell stuff on amazon, and always come out ahead on shipping.

I have tried to calculate a sample textbook shipping on usps.com, but I can't find a way to get media mail.

And yes, I really do think you got fucked. It's cheap to send Media Mail.

But this thread has gotten me to list some textbooks, so when I finally sell one, I'll let you know. It won't be $4+ for media mail

I take my packages to this Postal Annex place and they charged me like six bucks to send out a hardcover textbook via media mail. I mean I guess they add their own markup on there, but it still seemed pricey.

oh since i read this thread i'd like to add:

i always buy "sellable back to the bookstore" books...that way i dont get fucked...typically i get more back from the bookstore than i originally paid...never sold a book at half.com/amazon, because to me, i will take 5 bucks less to get cash instantly, plus i dont feel like logging into the site and doing all that shit, then having to buy an envelope, and all that other bullshit...i'd rather post on tww than worry about that gayness, plus i'm probably making money(see earlier comment) on selling it to the bookstore anyways

i ALWAYS make sure to know if the book has cd's or supplements, cause the bookstore is anal about that

And either the link I posted up there is horribly wrong, or there's something shady going on, because according to it, the 4lb textbook I shipped today should have cost $2.82, but it was $3.6x


That said...If you're paying $2 for an envelope, you're an idiot. 3packs at kmart of the ones one size up from 8.5x11 come out to either $0.93 or $0.97; singles are $1.69.

If the book is less than 3 lbs, you can usually make money off the shipping that amazon or half charges. Anything over that and you're costing yourself money. Most sellers do this to beef up their positive feedback rating because the books that are going for this rate are old editions and aren't worth anything to them.

I buy books at yard sales and library sales and sell them on half.com.....at any given time, i have more than 100 books listed....


I ship everything media mail and for a textbook IT DOES NOT COST $4.00. For a regular book it costs ~$2.47 and a textbook ships for about ~$2.87

And with envelopes if you are smart and buy them from a warehouse club come out to cost much less than $2/envelope.
