Don't park on Dixie Trail near East Village at night. There's some unclear and misleading signage that prevents you from parking there legally after 7pm without a "U" permit (wtf is that anyway?). Nearly every car on the street was ticketed (mine included). Officer "C10" can blow me hard. I wonder how many people get suckered into this trap every day. Yeah, the city needs to pull in revenue somehow, but come on.Just a heads up./rant[Edited on January 12, 2008 at 1:23 AM. Reason : gay][Edited on January 12, 2008 at 1:24 AM. Reason : ]

if you lived on the street, you'd need the permit, and you'd know what it iswhen i lived on hillcrest close to downtown, there were spots reserved for those of us who had special stickers. they give you info on buying them with the trash and water stuff.so really as crazy as it sounds, i think they do it to protect the people who paid to park on that street because they live there[Edited on January 12, 2008 at 1:28 AM. Reason : they make the money selling the street space to begin with ]

I understand the need for residental permits like you say, but they could at least put a few more signs up so that those of us that are new and unfamiliar to the area don't accidentally park there. The signs are a few hundred feet apart, many are crooked/broken, and it's not even marked where the boundary between free and permit parking is.
1/12/2008 1:28:34 AM
Got to read the signs before you can assume its ok to park some where man...After 7pm, U permit only is not to misleading, though I agree it's bullshit and it sucks having to park all the way in the Dan Allen Deck when their parking lot is full.[Edited on January 12, 2008 at 1:30 AM. Reason : .]

if its a ticket from mclaurin or park raleigh theres like a 24 or 48 hour time frame to appeal. for those exact reasons.
1/12/2008 1:30:01 AM
how can it be so misleading if it's on a sign?
1/12/2008 1:31:27 AM
When there's 25 cars ticketed in a quarter mile radius, there's obviously something wrong there.
1/12/2008 1:31:57 AM
Yeah the problem is that people just assume (without checking) that they can park anywhere at night.
1/12/2008 1:32:45 AM
also, there is no boundary between free and permit parking... all parking on those streets is permit onlyyou didn't check to see if you were parking legally... you got a ticket... pay it and get over yourself.your need to park close to a bar isn't THAT important in the grand scheme of things
1/12/2008 1:33:34 AM
its just like any other job. get all your work done early then you can fuck off for the rest of the week.

True Sorry about the rant, I was heated earlier. I'm just gonna pay the stupid thing and consider it a lesson learned.
1/12/2008 1:54:48 AM
Just curious how much are these tickets? I push my 2 hour limit a lot during the day.[Edited on January 12, 2008 at 2:03 AM. Reason : found it 12 dollars]
1/12/2008 1:55:24 AM
It was only $25 for the permit violation. Not sure what fines are levied for exceeding the 2 hr limit though.
1/12/2008 1:57:20 AM
^^it's $15 for exceeding the 2 hour limit

Actually, having lived right where he is talking about:You CAN park legally in the 100ft or so after east village. However the sign has been stolen/removed/destroyed/mangled. So they now ticket the ENTIRE length.I got a ticket for parking there when I went to EV about 8 months ago, and only because I used to live there did I know i could park there without a permit. So I got the ticket, I officially disputed the ticket and claimed I had a picture of my car's location via camera phone, and it was dropped. Now if you were parked anywhere EXCEPT the first two houses on the EV side of east village, then you are fucked. otherwise you may have a case unless they've changed the signage

Lot's of old school motherfucker's up in this thread. So you can't park on either side of Dixie Trail after 7pm? Where does this end, like past the church / elementary school?
1/12/2008 7:20:09 AM
theres another parking ticket ripoff in the parking lot behind Buckheadsthe sign clearly says no parking from 7am-7pm, we parked there at 10ish (as did 50+ other cars) and we all got tickets. Someone talked to a cop who said that the lot turned into a "city parking lot" after 7pm, but it gives no notice of this on the sign.YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Also, there is misleading signage at the food lion on western. Even though the sign CLEARLY only says you can't park there (except the back wall) during OPERATING HOURS of the store, they tow even after operating hours.
1/12/2008 10:43:24 AM
Why would you want to park there after hours anyway?

As a former resident of the exact area you are referring to, I can say, fuck off.The signs are perfectly clear, and have been since I lived there back in 02/03.D-bags like yourself made it fun to play find a parking spot coming home from evening classes.besides, there's a huge parking deck right across the street...god forbid you walk a little extra[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 4:55 PM.
