I have Sprint service and I want a new phone. I LOVE the iphone, but unless someone knows a way to hack it for sprint service, I won't be getting it I played with the Touch phone and was very unimpressed, especially with the qwerty keys and "touch" screen. I especially want to be able to use google talk on my phone, and I'd like a qwerty pad of some sort. Anybody got any ideas? I'm tempted to just wait until the google phone comes out, but I've no idea when that will be.

On the HTC Touch from Sprint, you can get a program that allows you to use a replica of the iphone touchscreen keyboard since you seem to believe that one is so much better.
I personally think all on screen keyboards suck to type on.
get a treo 755

I have the HTC 6800 (Mogul) and have been pretty happy with it. It's got a full keyboard in a slide-out design, good sized screen, wi-fi, 2 MP camera, runs Windows Mobile 6. Only downsides are no GPS and the fact that battery life, while decent, isn't anything to write home about. You might want to check it out though...

Also do be aware that I've not yet seen any other device with as nice or as high-res a screen as the iPhone. I'm happy with the Mogul most of the time, but every time I see an iPhone I do get a bit sad that my screen is so inferior.

I've got a treo 755 and love it to death. I have access to google talk thru chatopus http://www.chatopus.com/index.html . The palm centro seems to be pretty popular as well, fewer business type applications, smaller keyboard, and no phone as a modem capability from what i understand. wouldn't trade my treo for anything, personally.

I have the Samsung m610 ... ultra-slim, I love it. They discontinued it after 6 months for reasons unknown, probably because it was a RAZR-killer. The mobile phone industry is stupid.

the rumor operates on the 2G network, why they would develop a new phone to operate on an old network is beyond me.

the m610 was dope shit, i dunno why they discontinued it but continue to manufacture the far inferior m510.

sprint are stupid.

I too have the palm 755 and really like it. If it had wifi it would be perfect imo.

Does anyone know a free way to get mp3s as ringtones on it? Or a free volume booster? Thanks

I have a blackberry 8830 and pretty happy with it. I heard the Motorola Q9c is good too.

You should be able to save mp3 to memory card and then assign it as a ringtone.

yeah, i'm leaning towards the centro right now.... seems like a good compromise, and its not as expensive as the fullblown pdas

you can. goto mytreo.net and download the mini tones application.

that allows you to save songs as ring tones and also allows you to trim to the part that you want.

you also want to download The core pocket media player so you can play more songs and videos.

but ive found two volume boosters, but you have to pay for them

q9c is awesome, except a lot of them have been known to leak dust underneath the screen....mine included.

however, the on-screen keyboard of the touch sucks....you just don't get the same feeling as a regular touch keyboard.

treo's are nice, except Palm hasn't unlocked the full GPS functionality, therefore you can't use google map's GPS function. (they did release a patch for the 755p, but not sure if that unlocked gps).

Centro all the way. I haven't played with the new Moto Q, I just have the original one. However, my sister has the centro, I am about to buy one. I really like it. Provides a good amount of usability, is cheap, and is a really nice form factor. As for the phone as a modem: http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/

Good luck finding a phone.

Whatever you buy, get it on Sprints website. Rebates are instant, and there is no pound-me-in-the-ass $18 upgrade fee. Free shipping too.

^^^yeah, $18. WHEW, good thing that's used to pay overhead in the stores, and goes toward my hourly pay. and since you ordered it online, circumventing my commission; don't expect me to go out of my way to help you with your phone problems.

anyhoo, I don't know how you were unimpressed by the touch when it does damn near everything the iphone does, but with faster data speeds and more customization ability AND half the price.

What's this $18 upgrade fee you're talking about? I didn't get charged for it.

Yay I knew I could count on Tech Talk to help me with my phone situation

I am trying to decide between the Mogul and the Treo. So far I'm still 50/50 on both phones, but I've enjoyed reading your comments!!!

I think I just need to sit and play with a mogul. I've seen lots and lots of treos through friends and work, just no moguls out there

Mogul is the thickest phone I've seen. Go with the Motorola Q9c, you'll love it. If not, exchange it within 30 days.

one of my main reasons for buying the treo was the phone as a modem functionality. i don't even know anyone that owns a mogul...

the treo is quick with the internet. but its palm software is not so hot when trying to multitask.

thats where windows would be better.

you can get the treo in windows, but they say the 755 is the best treo out now.

personally, i didnt like the centro, or whatever its called. too small for me.

but i am a big fan of touch screens. my friends have other smart phones and i constantly take out my stylus and attempt to use it on their phones.

and the battery life on the treo is pretty good, as long as you keep bluetooth and other stuff off when not in use
