thanks in advance for babycam79 for pickin my stinky ass up after i had to push my bike a couple blocks up hill and coming that far to pickup a shitty acc. book.k so I'm cruising along and the bike cuts out, i pull the clutch in let it back out it fires right back up but then cuts out again.i checked the fuses all good. has gas, and battery has full power.it will fire for about 1/2 a second then cut out, and the engine doesnt sound abnormal for the 1/2 second it WILL fire up. i can rev it for that half second and it will cut out. ie if i start it with the throttle on it will rev up to maybe only 6k? but before the revs have a chance to even drop it will cut out.i noticed i don't get the fuel pump prime/whine like i usually get when turning the key and getting ready to start it.i checked the one wire that runs to the fuel pump/gas tank and it was running 11.2 volts or whatever, when the key is in the on position. so it's definitely getting power.I'm going with bad fuel pump. sound like a good guess?do they just shit the bed like this? randomly?does it make sense to have a bad fuel pump since it will only fire intermittently. what else could cause the fuel pump to cut out like this?the bank sensor isnt it. bc when those go the bike wont start at all.i thought i bought a honda and they dont break haha oops.[Edited on January 10, 2008 at 10:22 PM. I haven't been on here in a while, how many bikes did i miss since that rigged up suzuki?

just this one.this is bike number 8 [Edited on January 10, 2008 at 10:56 PM. Reason : .]

It sounds like it is a fuel issue. Pull the filter off and fire it off with a can of starting fluid if it runs then start tracing [Edited on January 10, 2008 at 11:05 PM. Reason : prolly your pump on a real note tho]
1/10/2008 11:03:03 PM
word will do. as soon as i get it outta the damn parking lot locked to a poll right now. with a 'broke ass piece of shit, will get real soon' note on it. im sure it will fire with starting fluid tho. it just seems like the fuel cuts and the bitch shuts off. bc it starts normally like it always would and runs just fine from the 1/2 of rpms i can hear. There is only one thing to do in this case. Tube hooked up to some SF run it into your airbox hold that bitch wide open and do the same with some duct tape to the can of SF [Edited on January 10, 2008 at 11:14 PM. Reason : gd]

i just filled this tank up with gas too .

This just happen out of the blue then right? if you got power to the pump it prolly time for a new one [Edited on January 10, 2008 at 11:20 PM. Reason : pbr]

yep power to the pump. time for a new one ...priced them out at 65 shipped..bullshit tho.. bike only has 10k miles.
1/10/2008 11:34:11 PM
also thanks for the advice.

10k RLY Man that does not seem right at all![Edited on January 10, 2008 at 11:43 PM. Reason : this is not that one race f4i bike it was CL was it?]

nah it was one of the stunt ones that was on there. so it's had plenty of lot time that makes up for the low miles also... i accidentally thumbed the starter when the bike was in 2nd gear. besides it lurching forward (was cabled around a pole) and stalling... this also caused it to have the fuel pump prime the next try... so i rode it home. HAH.now to go wire tracing or fuel pump shoppingi hear sometimes tapping on bad fuel pumps helps them out kinda like tapping on a starter? maybe me starting it while it was tied around the pole did the same. haha.

yeah, a well placed whack to a fuel tank or pump will get a pump going again in some cases. off hand, it sounds like it might be the pump from a couple of things you said. it could also be something ignition related though... i would also be a little suspect of that voltage reading. some will have that much drop over the run, but ideally it should be closer to 12v unless you'd been cranking on it for a while.
1/11/2008 1:34:39 AM
Almost sounds like a coil.
1/11/2008 12:01:08 PM
^^ i was cranking it for a while. so it def. dropped the volage.would a bad coil cause the fuel pump to not prime?im going to check in the wiring harness this weekend for a fried wire as taht might be the case.regardless i rode it to class/work today without a problem.
1/11/2008 1:03:59 PM
it was 11.77V not 11.2V going to the fuel pump.

^oops. ty for the tools

lol np.
1/11/2008 2:52:52 PM
just a guess, but my rr did that when the ground for the harness was loose
1/11/2008 4:07:57 PM
it did the same exact thing? if the ground for the harness was bad, im Assuming i wouldnt be getting power to the pump at all.
1/11/2008 4:41:37 PM
well, it was loose, so it would sometimes work, then just die out. it's worth a look anyway. It felt exactly like it was running out of gas with a full tank. don't remember if the prime would come on or not. just something to look into.
1/11/2008 4:46:34 PM
Is it stunt ready and never have been stunted before?
1/11/2008 5:14:53 PM
1/11/2008 6:42:57 PM
turns out it's a wire on my main harness right near the left ram air cover that has a wire that was clipped out. depending upon how you position the remaining wire.. it will let the fuel pump prime or not.weird.im guessing it's the bank sensor that was removed by just clipping it out?

wiring harness soldered, hot glued, and repaired.
