Everyone is all Bob Barker on my ass for not having my cat fixed yet.

She's a female, so she doesn't mark her turf.

She's an inside-only cat, so she's not gonna get knocked up.

She gets a little randy and cuddly when she goes into heat, but nothing too obnoxious.

So why exactly MUST I make my cat go through surgery?

non-fixed cats almost always get knocked up in spite of your best efforts.

Because who-knows-how-many so-called "inside-only cats" manage to get knocked up

also, I love hyphens

Seriously, aside from the possibility of it getting out (which it will want to do when it's in heat), there's also the question of what would happen if you had to give up the cat for some reason

She'll try her damndest to escape while in heat.

Also, spaying reduces the risk of breast cancer and eliminates ovarian and uterine cancer risks.

She's not going to escape though.

She is deathly afraid of outside and I've had her over a year and she's never tried it.

It's not like I'm brand new to this shit.

Still, everyone has the same reactions you guys have. Why?

It's like we try so hard to convince the morons to get their cat fixed that let them just breed like crazy...that we blindly yell it at everyone with a cat.

And with the cancer risks, etc...I've heard that getting your cat fixed also has some minor health risks.

Cancer risk>surgery risk+money for surgery?

i don't want to spay your cat.

i don't give a damn what you do with your cat. spread peanut butter on your balls and let it lick it off (IT'S YOUR CAT) for all i care.

You can buy a voucher from the SPCA on Tryon road for about $56 that will cover most of the costs of spaying, except for pain meds and such. I've done it with both my cats, and it's great.

Check it out here: http://www.spcawake.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Spay_Neuter_mainpage

You have to make sure that the vet performing the surgery will accept the voucher, so check the list on the bottom of the page.

If people tell you to spay your cat, tell them to give you money to do it.

A)I do not live in Raleigh.

B)The question is why do this to my cat?

I'm sure other rescue or humane groups in your area would offer the same deal.

That is, if you decide it's right.

I spayed my female cats to calm them down, in addition to reducing the risk of cancer.

haha, nobody here is going to spay her for you. tenaciousC has the right idea. even if not in Raleigh, maybe where you live there is a place that can do it

oh, and tell your neighbors to mind their own business. unless she is popping out kittens, how do they know she is not fixed?

There's also the risk of a uterine infection, which can often be deadly. It's called pyometra in dogs, not sure about cats.
