You'd be luckier starting off as a server or a barback. And I don't think you want to barback.

And maybe try to talk them into letting you have a slot on a dead night for practice.

Better get out yer mixing guide too, study up on it. Practice for your friends.

I don't know if the courses are worth it.

It's not too hard, if you know the right people.
Tolerate a lot of shit; be fast; efficient; courteous but know when to be stern.

bartending was a lot of fun, but it can wear on ya after awhile; late nights, rowdy customers; but a good time and [pretty] easy money. if you're fast and make good drinks, that's all you really need.

You might be able to get a job at a lesbian bar.

^^That's key. Be fast, efficient, and make good drinks. The rest will come.

And the money is potentially great. But it DOES wear on a body after a while.

it will be easier to get a job as a server and then move into bartending, I have been a bartender and since I was 20 and serving is much easier, you make less money at times but you usually get out much earlier and have to put up with less crap.

usually you cant just wake up one day, decide you want to bartend, esp. having no experience, and expect to land an awesome job. Hate to rain on your parade but it doesn't really work that way

^ i've heard the best way to get into it is to start off as a waiter type person in a restaurant and make it known that you want to learn to run the bar.

Not knowing the weird ones isn't that big of a deal. If I ask for something a bartender has never heard of then they usually ask whats in it. There was this one guy though... that had never heard of a zombie. He concerned me.
