target has some fairly cool stuff on stretched canvas, for under/around $50 but i wouldn't call it original and unique, since it's mass produced.

maybe art.com?

i dunno, under $150 i guess

depends on the piece, if i really liked it i suppose i could go a little higher

i just dont want something run of the mill like everything im seeing online (such as landscapes, fruit, animals, wine bottles, old crap from the 40s or 50s)

Make your own/buy from artistically-inclined friends?

They'll appreciate it for sure, and it's nice to have company over and have them compliment your decorations before they knew you're the one who did it.

Cup A Joe in Mission Valley just got in some really cool paintings that are for sale. They're really colorful sort of pop-art looking. Cost is in the $300 range but for an original painting I think that's not too bad. You should go check it out!!! The artist also has a brochure there

Put a sign up at the design school. Someone would probably have something they don't really want they would sell for a hundred bucks.

I can paint anything if you want somthing original. NC State bought one of my paintings to put up in Tally student center. I dont have a picture of it but if you want to check it out, its the black and white of Bob Marley. And if you are interested but dont want to go check it out, I have a smaller version here I could take a picture of.

I work in an art gallery in City market... my suggestion would be to come out for a First Friday event, which are every first friday of the month from 6-9. Most galleries around downtown have some sort of event or show, restauraunts have specials, bands, etc.

If you are looking for original, affordable art, i would recommend Visual art Exchange (i work next door), but they carry several 'emerging' artists, as well as local and student artist members, which sell most work for reasonable prices..
