do you do anything in that class the first day besides go over the course or whatever? no need for gym clothes?
1/8/2008 1:49:20 PM
why would you need gym clothes for walking?
1/8/2008 1:50:49 PM
for the class asstard
1/8/2008 1:51:52 PM
The first day with I had it the prof took us to get the uniforms.
1/8/2008 1:51:59 PM
what about archery? Do you wear uniforms. If you do that sucks.
1/8/2008 1:53:24 PM
yeah but did you do any walking or anything that day?[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ^i doubt it...i took golf and we didn't even have to wear them with that][Edited on January 8, 2008 at 1:56 PM. Reason : and do you have to wear those gay ass uniforms, or can you wear your own clothes?]
1/8/2008 1:53:35 PM
No walking the first day. I had it with Leith, and she said you had to wear the uniform. You got sweats and a T-shirt and sweatshirt, but you were allowed to wear your own shorts if you wanted. I don't think she took off points for the people who wore their own stuff, though. No uniforms in archery. Just no loose-fitting clothes, and you have to wear closed-toed shoes.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 1:59 PM. Reason : .]

score. Sorry about the thread hijacking walter.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 1:58 PM. Reason : d]
1/8/2008 1:57:43 PM
what about bowling? Do i need to wear a snazzy shirt and fancy tight pants? And have my hair gently parted?
1/8/2008 1:58:28 PM
I can tell you Not to drink beers during the final at the bowling alley. Big no-go.
1/8/2008 2:00:22 PM
While teh shorts suck, you can wear your own if they are red in most classes. What's not to like about the t-shirts? Get one covered in sweat, turn it in for a freshly laundered one... I've still got 5. I would go to grab one and grab 2. The sweats also used to be dirt cheap compared to buying them in a store. I still have a set of those, too.
1/8/2008 2:00:43 PM
Regarding uniforms, can you wear a plain grey t-shirt and red shorts, or does it have to be one of "those gay uniforms" for PE 105? I know you can rent them... but I'd rather buy my own, and a two dollar hanes is cheaper than the bookstore.
1/8/2008 2:03:46 PM
fitness walking isn't as lax as it might sound
1/8/2008 2:05:02 PM
I still maintain they are not "gay ass."Christ, they are FREE, unless you don't return them. AND They launder them for FREE.
1/8/2008 2:05:23 PM
I'm allergic to a lot of soaps, so thats the issue. Job I had last year we had to wear basics- basically gym clothes- under our "uniforms" and they would give me hives . I couldn't figure it out until I started wearing my own stuff (washed with the uber sensitive soap). I have to do laundry every week, anyway, so I don't care if I have to throw in an extra set of clothes.
1/8/2008 2:08:44 PM
Being free does not preclude something from being gay ass. I mean I could give away blowjobs and that would be pretty gay assed.
1/8/2008 2:09:24 PM
^^ In that case, I'm sure you can just talk to the prof and tell them what's up and they will let you wear whatever you want.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 2:09 PM. Reason : ^]
1/8/2008 2:09:40 PM
Frugal has a valid reason.I'm still pretty sure you have to have one of their shirts. You can buy them from the bookstore, or take one of the gym supplied ones home and wash it.I still don't see the issue against the uniforms. You don't need some gay ass under armor to do pe or workout.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 2:12 PM. Reason : do talk to the prof]
1/8/2008 2:11:52 PM
gah i hated fitness walkingit's so damn boring and believe it or not, you will hurt so bad during your 1mile and 2mile walks that you will WANT to runoh and take it for credit only
1/8/2008 2:16:29 PM
take fitness and wellness, while we're on this. It's a mix of running and lifting. If you are in any decent shape there is absolutely no reason to take it for credit only, because it should be an easy A.
1/8/2008 2:18:50 PM
1/8/2008 2:20:50 PM
shit, atleast they aren't running shorts or shorter soccer shorts.
1/8/2008 2:33:45 PM
i took it...i agree with marko its not as lax as it sounds...its weird cause when they go over the proper technique and shit and finally let you out on the track, your body and instincts want you to run, but you have to stick to walking fast...definitely builds your shin muscles up though...course if you're a state student you're probably already used to fitness walking in a 15 minute window from winston to jordan or whatever...unless you're lazy
1/8/2008 2:36:35 PM
Yeah, my shins buuuuurned the first few days. Your big walks shouldn't be too bad if you actually legitimately try during the semester, which I noticed most people in my class didn't.Do study for the mid-term, too.
1/8/2008 2:38:43 PM
i had ousley and we did not have to have clothes the first day...he also let us wear our own red shorts...had to wear the gray shirt thoughfor those that walk a lot already this class is literally nothing...i didnt burn easy or get sore or anything...finished in the top 3 for the final]

I had it last semester with winslow. That guy is way to excited about walking but makes the class fun. First two days we went over the syllabus, etc. After that, we had to dress-out and go to the indoor track. He didn't really care what you wore though. That indian relay is a bitch especially when you're the shortest person in the group. [Edited on January 8, 2008 at 5:00 PM. Reason : ]

if any of you are looking to get in shape, check out the new gym extensionthere is personal training, massages, workshops, and group fitness classes (of which I'll be teaching 4)http://www.ncsu.edu/campus_rec/Fitness/index.htm
1/8/2008 6:53:04 PM
personal training and massages?is my tuition paying for this or do you have to pay extra when you get it done?
1/8/2008 6:54:32 PM
it's a little extra. the more sessions you get, the cheaper they are per sessionprobably the cheapest pt you will encounter in your life and they're ACE certified
1/8/2008 7:03:35 PM
Good lord, personal training at carmicheal? The place is already a cluster fuck of the uneducated and misguided. You want a great starter to getting in shape? For the newbie, I'd reccomend the New Rules of Lifting (and New Rules of Lifting for Women) and Starting Strength as great starter books.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 7:04 PM. Reason : ooo ace .......whoopty fucking doo]
1/8/2008 7:03:56 PM
ACE certification is harder than you may thinkI know some of the personal trainers personally, and I trust them. one of the girls competes in fitness competitions and is very knowledgeable. I'm just trying to help out here, not everyone knows all about working out like you and some people would rather have a person helping them as opposed to a book
1/8/2008 7:08:37 PM
i bet a college would be an awesome place to be a massager
1/8/2008 7:11:34 PM
It's more prestigious than some of the crap certifications out, but that's not saying much. Just having one, doesn't assure that the trainer is going to be worth a damn (most aren't).
1/8/2008 7:11:39 PM
I had the lady that brought it to NCSU.....we had out of class walking assignments, had to take pulse(before and after), right down distance...she accused me of cheating one time but I told her my heart rate does not go up walking because I also run.....which was a lie(I do run, but I made up the numbers on the chart after a few test walks). I would do my running and sometimes put down the figures. We started at like 20 minutes or so(i think?) and by the end of the semester she wanted us to walk like 45 minutes out of class 4 days a week....she was hardcore.
1/8/2008 7:34:59 PM
Walter: What time do you have fitness walking?
1/8/2008 7:40:49 PM
if you get massages how often are you supposed to get them ...like once a month?
1/8/2008 8:36:38 PM
I think I might have had Lester too, actually. I suck at names.
