For those of you taking or have taken MAE 407, 442, or 495z, whats your input? I gotta get A's in all 3, and no this isn't OMG if I get a B I'll slit my wrist cause my daddy will kill me. It's either that or spending the summer (mucho money and my loans are pretty much taxed out) taking some older courses I didnt do so hot in before graduating. My other MAE requisites are all accounted for already so thats not an issue. Mainly 407 and 442 I've heard a few gripes and a few praises for both. 495z already saw the thread on it but anyone who took it that didnt see that thread I'd like to hear from as well.

Also, I've already taken 403 with Gould so thats out. While its good material and I did alright, Gould is still kind of an asshole sometimes, especially out of class.

442 is a guaranteed A if klang is still the primary professor

407 was pretty easy back when i took it with affify. dude was so old he didn't really give a shit anymore. not sure if he's still around though, so i don't know what to tell you if someone else is the professor.

never took 495

Yeah still lists Klang for 442, but I've heard Gould and someone else does some lectures. Boles for 407. Think it was Zorowski for 495z. If I remember Afify, I think he taught my MSE 200 class. Sorta like an iranian einstein looking guy?

442 is an easy A if you do the work (easy) and put some thought into the projects. Teaching is a combination of Klang, Gould and Eischen. We didn't have any tests nor did we have a final (spring 07). 495Z is an interesting course, and possibly another easy A if you put forth effort on all the assignments. Afify retired about a year ago....he taught MAE 408 most recently and thermodynamics and automotive engineering along the way.

well if thats the case you are just going to have a hw assignment per week

they are mainly problem solving and creative solution types

you have to do practically a lab write up for him so it seemed to be a lot of busy work when one of my friends was in that class in spring 07

i think its gas turbines with boles. personally i found it interesting and an easy B with moderate effort for an A. As in, if you are going into the class with the 'I gotta get an A attitude' and do all your HW you will get an A.

^Nice, thats what I like to hear. I've definitely found how to focus, took me a while to work out the kinks, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I do. As for 495z, it sounds like a good course, and now I'll finally have time this semester to knock all this out.

I took 495z last spring with Dr. Z. It was a pretty good class actually. He makes you put in the effort though.
