In a previous thread I said I couldn't attend last semester and now I cannot even log into my ncsu e-mail and most faculty are ignoring my non-ncsu email addressed e-mails to them. I filled out a re-enrollment form, got accepted just 2 weeks ago, and got a pin. I couldn't contact anyone or register because of the holidays. This should be my last semester at state.I started registering for classes in packtracs/mypack and noticed that CH434 wasn't even listed in there. So is it not offered this semester? That is crazy if it isn't because people who took p-chem 1 last semester and are taking p-chem 2 this semester need CH 434 this semester, to graduate on time, because of prerequisites. Is it offered under a different name? I've been gone for a semester and cannot contact anyone so thanks for any help.

You're right. CH 434 is only offered in the Fall, the course catalog says that. However, it says its co-req is CH 433, PChem II.I do know that they changed around what they were teaching in PChem I and II. They switched them completely. That isn't even reflected in the course catalog. Its a shame no one will answer you. I know the feeling - PChem I teacher this semester won't answer my emails about problem sessions. She hasn't answered them for several months.

I just found this:* For students who have taken CH 434 but have not taken CH 416: You should plan on taking CH 416 in the Fall. This course will likely not be offered again after the Fall 2007 semester. Please remember that CH 415 is a Corequisite for CH 416.* For students who have taken CH 428, but not CH 434: You may take CH 434 in the Fall 2007 semester. However, this course will not be offered again after the Fall 2007 semester. Please remember that CH 433 is a Corequisite for CH 434. If you do take CH 434 this fall, please see the note concerning CH 416 above. Starting in Spring 2008, Advanced Measurements Laboratory (Course number TBA) will be offered. This new course will have both physical and analytical components. Note though that it will be a three credit hour course, whereas CH 434 and 416 are four credit hours combined.I guess i'll have no choice but to take another semester off and have to take even more classes than I had to before [Edited on January 2, 2008 at 11:55 AM. go talk to your advisor and see if he has any suggestions, sometimes they will approve substitutions or maybe you could just do some research in a physical chem lab to meet that requirement. That, or better planning next time Or, take the measurements lab? Why wouldn't that work?[Edited on January 2, 2008 at 12:19 PM. Reason : .]

You really need to talk to your advisor/dean in person and even if they're hard to get to it'll definitely be worth it. It sounds like your old curriculum is in a shift towards a new one and getting phased out, so I would think unless you just become lazy or you've already pissed them off they'll be willing to help you.

I am a chemistry major and have received numerous emails about changes in course offerings, new/replacement courses as well as info on what to do if you are missing a certain course with an old degree audit that requires it. Unfortunately, I have already deleted them so I am not able to immediately give you that information however, if you email phil_brown@ncsu.edu Dr. Brown will be able to quickly advise your on such an issue as he is the director of undergraduate studies for the chemistry department.

I just e-mailed him right after I made the 1st post. I just hope he gets the e-mail because it isn't an ncsu email address, my account was deleted.[Edited on January 2, 2008 at 12:57 PM. Reason : .][Edited on January 2, 2008 at 12:57 PM. Reason : .]

All the changing requirements in the chem department are frustrating

The new measurements lab is being offered this semester for the first time. CH434 is gone, but the new class is a combination of both P.Chem lab (CH434) and the old required lab for Analytical Chemistry II (CH416). So if all you need to graduate is P.Chem lab, just take the new measurements lab. You'll have to do a little bit of extra work because the analytical portion is now involved in the P.Chem lab, but it'll still count towards your graduation. In the past, you could take P Chem II and take the lab another semester, I did. You aren't having to take more courses, actually one less because the two labs are now combined into one. If you're still confused, just go see Phil Brown...He'll usually just let you drop in. yeah, you have to take the new measurements lab, CH499B and C. i was screwed in the same way, except i've already taken the 416 lab.
