HAHAH remember that time they said this and all the precipitation turned to sheet ice on the roads, resulting in a mid day rush hour that blocked traffic bumper to bumper all over the area and left people stranded.

I remember that, my first year at NCSU! It was the lightest little bit of snow, that turned to rain and then started to freeze. But it was so little snow that it was rediculous that people couldn't drive in it. You are talking about the 'I-40 Gridlock', aren't you?

I just remember cars sliding down western because they couldn't make it up that hill right before the interstate. I was on the other side coming down and was thinking to myself why are classes still being held.

A while later they finally did close campus, and that part of western had to be redirected down method.

It is 29 with a wind chill of 21 in Climax right now.

I have always wanted a big snow storm while at NCSU. I would have preferred it to have been while I lived on campus so I didn't have to worry about losing power and hot water. However, I would still be thrilled to get a big snow this year before I graduate and leave Raleigh.

Wow... see I wonder why I don't really remember that.
That was the semester Lucky1 had just gotten to NCSU with me, I remember classes being cancelled right after my last class, I was supposed to work - but just went to my dorm and did nothing. I thought it happened the semester before Lucky1 got there (fall 04) because I really kept to myself and never hung out with many people. But he and I would have gone out and played in it most likely... who knows... but it is puzzling. Also, I don't remember the snow being anywhere near that much!

It was like 11-12ish, because right after they cancelled classes and everyone left - the roads locked up and the snow stopped and turned to just rain.

You know, maybe the rain was the reason we didn't go play in it...

The bit o'snow that caused the gridlock was definitely in early '05. I worked in the Hillsborough building at the time, and lived just north of Cameron Village. When it started snowing in the late morning, I decided to drive home on my lunch hour and walk back. Even that was a little tricky (My RWD car had a bit of trouble getting up the hill on Clark), but it was a very good decision in retrospect. Too bad I don't really have the option to walk anymore with where I live now...

I'd like to see a little bit of snow tomorrow though. It'd make having to go back to work after a long layoff seem not quite so bad...

I was in down town raleigh working at a restaurant, we convinced the owners to close and we all left. It took me about 45 mins to get home, My gf came over and we drank and watched movies with my roommate. It was fun until my other roommate came home he had been in the car for eight hours.

I'm currently in Wisconsin.
It's 5*F with wind chill of -17*F.

There are snow mounds 5-10ft tall outside.

Shit's crazy.

If it snows in East NC from Friday until Friday a year from now and travel is bad, and I don't have a local room near the power co. I work at, I will be pissed. 44 miles at 45 miles per hour (if I were lucky) would probably make me want to spend the night at work if it's just going to ice over...

Snow now in Raleigh would be pretty nice though

the ice storm in spring 05 was decent.

it was the snow in late 99/early 00 (my freshmen year) that was really awesome. stealing lunch trays to slide down the court of carolinas - which cannot be done anymore because of the new patio / brick area - was definitely one of my best times in raleigh.

we also played some snow tackle football between bragaw and sullivan. i love the snow.

See, this is the kind of memory I want to have before I leave State! I remember that Spring 05 snow, the Spring 06 5 minute flurry, and the 07 little snow shower... we need something big to round out my college run!

^^well, i hope you see it to. i can't remember how much it snowed, but it was really fun sledding. it seems as though the snow is becoming less and less everywhere. my parents used to say it snowed every year, a couple of times while growing up. now, i may see an inch or two every two or three years (around new bern). i beat the snow in 99/00 wasn't much more than a foot, probably less. and, i'd also wager that raleigh used to regularly get a couple of feet a year. global warming ftl good luck on your snow quest.

I was co-oping in Newport News during the clusterfuck traffic jam. It happened there too, but my commute was mostly through neighborhoods so I didn't hit traffic at all! boy was I lucky. The traffic up there is a nightmare even on normal days!
