f1001978 will tell you to go for the F-150. But he's an idiot. Go for the 'yota
12/31/2007 10:06:23 AM
big big bigsmallsmallerwhy?tundra is a good truck but i think they're fugly tacomas are good but much smaller than the american trucks listed.... ford/chevy you'll never get a real answer cause the nascar crowd will chime in.

well i know chevy silverado was rated number 1 truck for 2008 and serria was 2ndf-150 was 5th and ram was 6thid really like to get the 2008 silverado 1500 z71 4x4but that costs a lotim going with the silverado 1500 work truckmost likely
12/31/2007 10:37:07 AM
the silverado only won the #1 ranking b/c it is the more consumer friendly(less expensive) of the two. Had that not been a catergory the Sierra would be the motortrend truck of the year.
12/31/2007 10:55:57 AM
i would say that a lot of it depends on what you will use it for, and what you are looking for.do you want crew cab, std. cab, 4wd, long bed, towing power, fuel economy, comfort, room in cab, amenities, etc. The ram is about to or has already been redesigned, the GM900 platform seems very solid, and the F-150 when I test drove last year just didn't excite me like the GM900. That said there are a lot more questions that you have to answer before anybody on here can give you a solid answer.I do have to ask though why you would even throw a frontier in the same boat as any of the others? I can understand the taco, but just drop the word nissan from your decision process.
12/31/2007 11:55:01 AM
i really like the f150, but that being said the 1500 gets the best fuel milage, and honestly that's important
12/31/2007 12:08:33 PM
Why not the Tundra? they got 3k in rebates....i got an 08 doublecab 4x4 with 5.7 for only 24700[Edited on December 31, 2007 at 12:52 PM. Reason : .]

f-150 is the best mass production truck available today.
12/31/2007 1:16:13 PM
i have an 07 silverado and love it. it feels a lot roomier than my buddies 07 f150. i am fat fuck so more room is good. i like the control lay out more on silverado than the f150. i also like the drop cylinder gas saving function on mine, i am getting 17mpg no matter how i drive. the trans temp info is nice when i am towing my boat. the overall ride is better than my buddies f150. i vote silverado even though i like the look of the f150 better.
12/31/2007 2:41:02 PM
i have a rollbak cover on my F-150 and get 16mpg city consistantly. Not wowing in the least but its not bad. Better than my cherokee
12/31/2007 3:07:05 PM
^x4you're one to talk. Isn't this your ride?
12/31/2007 3:13:30 PM
I like the F-150's and Silverados. The F-150 seems to ride better and have a better interior IMO. Just drive them all and pick the one you like though.

f-150.. watch the truth about trucks videos and you'll see why.ps full size toyota trucks are a JOKE

tacoma
1/1/2008 11:28:10 AM
tacoma all day long. toyotas last forever and its a great looking truck. get the TRD trim level
1/1/2008 1:37:18 PM
1/1/2008 4:38:10 PM
^ That's an acceptable compromise And for the record, I never gave an opinion on which to get; partly because I don't have enough knowledge of the newer model stuff, but mostly because I don't care. [Edited on January 1, 2008 at 5:13 PM. Reason : ]

my dad is trying to push the toyota tacomabut im dead set with a silverado
1/1/2008 10:20:42 PM
F 150 5.4
1/1/2008 10:47:37 PM
I drive a new sierra, and couldnt be happier. So i would say silverado or sierra no doubt for full size. I was considering the new tundra as well but i heard even from the toyota shop that they were having problems with the trans. If i were going smaller, i would go tacoma for sure.
1/2/2008 1:31:32 AM
to me its just stupid to get a truck that has an inline 4 or a V6but i can see the good thing about gas efficiency from themhow reliable does the new fuel management sound for the silverado-incase you didnt hear about itits when the v8 is driving, it will turn off 4 of the cylinders while driving when acceleration or power isnt needed.so cruising speeds on highways and flat roads it goes to 4 cylinders rather than all 8and when you add power, it will turn all 8 back on.my dad is really worried this could have problems because its all in the vehicle doing it, the driver has no control besides the gas peddle.
1/2/2008 1:02:48 PM
also, i know ive checked the ram off even though there is like 7000 in rebates right now at the place near my house, because of its lack of agility and its high gas consumptionford looks like its more expensive than the chevy right now tooand a basic ford doesnt excite me, only the high end trucks doso im down to a silverado and maybe a tacoma
1/2/2008 1:04:47 PM
pull the trigger on the chevy, the new GM900's are nice. get the GMC if you can, i personally like the looks better than the chevy
1/2/2008 1:15:41 PM
idk how they are saying a sierra and silverado, exact same truck, are the same priceusually sierra is gonna be a little more even though they are basically identical
1/2/2008 2:00:17 PM
stone I work for Eaton we make the deactivating lifter for the silverado if you need any let me know [Edited on January 2, 2008 at 2:51 PM. Reason : ]
1/2/2008 2:51:01 PM
F-150 is still my vote.definitely not the Tundra, consumer reports has dropped them out of their top list altogether this year and the proof is being shown with all of the tranny issues and other problems that are flooding the dealers. I say the Sierra or the F-150. You haven't really told us much about the trim level you are interested in...you said work truck earlier which leads me to believe you will be shopping baseline benchseat, am/fm, ac?
1/2/2008 2:57:53 PM
im looking at an extended cab, standard bed, 4x4either work truck or LT1 for silveradoif i didnt get a 4x4, id get a locking differential
1/2/2008 4:09:00 PM
1/2/2008 6:02:24 PM
^ the best ones are the frame torsion tests and the bed/cab relationship tests at speed on rough surface. Ford/chevy maintain a gap between the bed and cab while driving on the road however the toyota bed slammed into the cab causing a huge (half dollar sized) dent and chipped the paint away... all while the bed oscillates.
1/2/2008 9:32:36 PM
ok, i know about the tundra, but is there any reason why the tacoma should be excluded as well, i mean toyota makes both of them. why would the tranny problem in the tundra be seen in the tacoma
1/3/2008 10:01:15 AM
i think we were just excluding the tacoma because you originally listed the silverado, sierra, ram, and F-150...All fullsized american trucks. Then you listed the frontier and tacoma which are midsized trucks so comparing them to the former would be apples to oranges. the tacoma is a good truck, always has been. My buddy has one he bought new years ago and has 200k+ on it without any problems. I think the new body styles look great, they are bigger than they used to be (as all trucks are these days).
1/3/2008 11:27:06 AM
yea, i dont really see anything wrong with it and yea i realized i didnt mention it earlier, plus its smaller.the problem i have with the tacoma is why get a truck if your getting an inline 4 or v6. shows your really not going to do much with itbut i do like it cause its cheap for a 4x4 extended cabplus id rather have the silverado/sierra over all of them for various reasons
1/3/2008 12:03:02 PM
yeah man, its all about personal pref and style.fwiw, my buddy drives an Explorer Sportrac which i believe is a V6 and we towed his 19' Sea Ray with a cabin full of asses all summer long.
1/3/2008 12:09:58 PM
^nice, well yea, i know a V6 can do it, thats why i was up for a work truck with a v6 from silverado
1/3/2008 3:24:56 PM
towing is more about brakes and suspension than it is power.
1/3/2008 3:32:03 PM
^yeah i know, i was just stating that we got it done with no less than 4-5 people in the cab each time.
1/3/2008 4:25:36 PM
yea, i understand about that, but thats why im worried that a tacoma, unless u have the 4x4 capabilities, cant tow anything regardless of an inline 4 or v6 or v8id go for a v6 silveradobut i prefer the 4x4 v8if i had to get the tacoma id def. be getting the 4x4 or atleast prerunner
1/3/2008 4:44:43 PM
and weight of the truck..seriously though... towing stuff with a light truck with stiff suspension 400hp and huge brakes would still be scary as shit in a cross wind.(scrambler with 1 ton axles and brakes with rigid ass leaf springs that were also from a 1 ton and barely any actual lift is what i messed my pants in. it was a friends "tow vehicle")[Edited on January 3, 2008 at 4:58 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2008 4:56:01 PM
^^4wd also has nothing to do with towing ability. in fact, if anything, it's worse than a 2wd due to the added height, rotating mass, etc.
1/3/2008 6:05:30 PM
regarding the f-150's, the 2wd will tow 150-200lbs more (depending on gear ratio, engine, cab, and suspension configuration) than the same truck with 4wd. the real advantage with 4wd, in towing terms, is realized when you're trying to pull a boat and trailer up a wet ramp.customers always loved our "truth about trucks" displays at the dealership. i've been able to flip a good number of "just lookers" and comparison shoppers just by going over the display with them.[Edited on January 3, 2008 at 7:30 PM. Personally I've had good luck with yotas (a few camries and multiple 4 runners and a tacoma) and my friend's dad has had really bad luck with GMC's (and he's employed by GM). But whatever, these days most trucks are good.
