Okay, so earlier in the week this dude comes by and offers to clean my gutters for $25. I've seen him doing general handyman stuff in the neighborhood before. My gutters are filthy as shit and I don't own a ladder, so I take him up on it. So he's up on the roof for an hour or two, about 3/4 done, and I'm on my way to somewhere else for holiday-related things. I tell him I'm heading out, leave his $25 on the deck, and go out for a couple of hours. I come back later and it's raining like crazy. His ladder and gloves are still on my back porch, but he's nowhere to be found. He'd taken the $25. I figured he bounced when it started raining and was going to come back or something. I went out of town for a wedding and got back today, and his shit's still out there.

Now, I would think I'd been ripped off except for the fact that he did clean almost all of my gutters for $25, AND left a ladder that is worth at least twice that.

So: WTF? I'm kind of confused by the whole situation. Nobody I've talked to has any idea what might have happened. So, again: WTF?!?

My guess is he stole the ladder and a drug induced stupor, came to, realized you can't really pawn a ladder (AFAIK), figured he could clean some gutters for quick cash. Realized that you wouldn't pay until AFTER the gutters were cleaned and went ahead to clean them anyway. Saw that you left, took the money, and peaced, leaving the ladder he stole behind.
