ok ive been paying not much attention to everything that has happened and it seems like the news and internet over the past few months have explained the situations assuming we know the background of this whole situationi think something happened with some lawyers last summer and a judge being fired but i basically want a historical summary of what has happened and why this whole thing is so significant and people are acting like its a serious situation that won't just calm down.

there's 2 versions:If you trust Musharraf, here's the scoop:a month ago or so, in an incident totally unrelated to the Bhutto assassination, President Musharraf temporarily suspends the constitution for a few weeks while he gets things in order. Afterwards, Bhutto returns to the country, and at a rally, she's killed by Islamist extremists linked to Al-Qaeda.This is also what the Bush Administration supports, as Bush considers Musharraf a key ally in the war on terror. If you think there's a conspiracy going on, then this is the story:A month ago or so, Musharraf suspends the constitution for a few weeks to make sure that he's re-elected when the legitimacy of his previous elections are called into question (he came into power following a coup d'etat, but has been re-elected into office twice. Some question the legitimacy of the re-elections). Since Bhutto, the Prime Minister, is actually more popular than he is, Musharraf has her assassinated, once again in order to make sure he stays in power for as long as possible.
