I picked up this Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair today. I know that the rosewood veneer is worth quite a bit more than the others. Could someone tell me if this one is rosewood? The only woods they used were rosewood, walnut and teak. thanks!

At first glance I'm pretty sure its walnut. But being that im partially color-blind, it *could* be rosewood.Rosewood looks red-brown, walnut is chocolate brown. Rosewood should have some almost silver streaks in the grain when polished with tang oil. My big reasoning for it being walnut though is the grain. Walnut is usually very straight grained (which is what your underside picture looks like) and smooth finished, whereas rosewood has a rougher finish and tends to show a bit more pittedness. They are very similar looking woods though, except for the color and feel.[Edited on December 27, 2007 at 9:31 PM. Reason : .]

yea i may have to end up calling Herman Miller to see if there are any numbers on it to tell what kind of wood it is. Either way im going to keep it for a while, I just want to know if I should use it or look at it.

I glanced around online at some other wooden furniture for comparison and I think that it looks more like walnut than rosewood.
