last I heard that was John Kerry's big project. To get them put at least this game on national TV. I'm sure he will fail though.

1. he isnt going for a record, and hes had WRs and/or RBs out every damn game

and 2. he didnt do that

10-7, Manning TD to make it 24-7

31-7, Manning TD to make it 38-7, so he threw one while up by 3TDs

At this point in 2004, manning had thrown all 49 of his TD passes, then he sat the next game out after like 2 passes.

Brady only has 48 at this point.

He also had more yards and a higher QB rating

2004 Manning > 2007 Brady

i will laugh my ass off when the giants sit their players waiting for the playoffs

while the patriots start everyone for a meaningless game and throw in the 4th quarter

i just hope we run it down their fucking throats all day long

and i hope the fans make them regret coming the entire game

and 4th quarter broken legs for moss and brady would be nice as well

They are on ESPN interviewing people about hypothetical matchups between the Patriots and the greatest teams in football history, and of course the Patriots are coming out on top in all these hypothetical matchups.

Hopefully this ends up like when they matched up USC against the best teams in history and it turned out they weren't even the best team in 2005/6

Quote :
"Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is doing everything in his power to set the all-time single-season passing touchdowns record, and he might get it Saturday night against the Giants. But it's important to note that even if he gets it, that doesn't make his 2007 season as impressive as the 2004 season of the current record holder, Peyton Manning.

For starters, Manning didn't keep trying to pile up the stats once the Colts had things wrapped up in 2004: Manning sat out more fourth quarters than Brady, and he played just one series and threw two passes in the Colts' Week 17 game that year. And Aaron Schatz has this to say at Fox Sports:

let's compare Brady's 2007 season to Manning's 2004 season. Manning had 49 touchdowns with just 497 pass attempts. If we assume Brady plays next week like he has the last few games, he'll end up with something like 51 touchdowns in 570 pass attempts. Yes, that gives him more touchdowns, but it isn't as impressive when it takes him 73 more pass attempts to score them.

In addition, Brady has now dropped to 8.3 average yards per attempt. In his record-setting season, Manning averaged 9.2 yards per attempt. That's a huge difference.
Brady has been straining so hard to set records in conventional stats that his season now looks worse in the eyes of advanced stats.

Brady is having a great season, and he's done it in bad weather at times, which Manning didn't have to face. He's earned the MVP award he will certainly receive. But his 2007 season isn't quite up to the standard set by Manning's 2004 season."

ahahahaha, that worked out well for the Colts and led to great Super Bowl success right?

Brady played the same way in week 16 that he has played in weeks 1-15. OMG he is trying to throw to Moss to set records!!1! Fuck you, wtf is he supposed to do? He's thrown deep to Moss all year; and how many times did he throw to Welker and Gaffney?

Point being, that's really sweet that Manning set some neat records in 2004 by sitting out week 17. He choked in the playoffs when it counts (2 weeks off?) and Brady got what really mattered that year.

It does, especially when you bring RB's into a QB comparison. Back to the discussion at hand....

How about that Giant's secondary? Prediction: Matt Cassell second half stats....

14-20, 225 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 pick

Pats 41, G-Men 14

^^ so QBs are solely responsible for their teams wins and losses but a rb who fumbles 3 times in a game isnt... stunning.

And just to think, all this time I had it in my head that football was team sport...

^ nice try... but forcing the ball to a guy who was tripled covered when you were already up 21-0 to a team that had won one game was purely just stat padding

i think anybody who has a shot at breaking a record should work as hard as possible to break it.
manning sure did and once he passed Marino, he though "nobody is gonna even come close again"
and he took a game off
thats his own fault, his mistake
now brady needs to set the new bar and push others to beat it

^ what a dumb fucking statement

first off, how can you even pretend to know that Manning thought "nobody is gonna even come close again", second, Manning didnt "try his hardest to break it", see the stats above concerning the number of pass attempts... third, Dungy decides who sits and who doesnt, he almost always sits his starters once there is nothing left to play for.

jesus christ people

all this psychoanalysis is just so useless

there is no such thing as "padding stats". Why dont the dolphins or whoever just play better defense?

either way, it doesn't matter. It's not the Patriots problem they kick ass.

Giants won't even be playing this game... Absolutely no way they will play spoiler.

And I think you want to come into the playoffs with the other teams knowing you intend to beat them by 30+ without mercy... that is badass and if you can do it: more power to ya.

[Edited on December 26, 2007 at 4:06 PM. Reason : but Eagles should be in the playoffs instead of the lucky giants ]

As a Giants fan, i take the opinion they should try and play spoiler.

They need positive momentum if they can get it - resting Eli and whoever else and losing 45-10 going into the playoffs isn't really the direction I would prefer. I favor sitting Plax and whoever else is battling nagging injuries but i think pretending this game does not exist is a poor poor choice

ive seen it, and to say manning didnt try his hardest is plain stupid
all payton cares about is stats and his records
as for the pass attempts the projected difference is 70
that can be accounted to many factors, belichick's greed, a better pats defense which gets 3 and outs, an inferior ground game, and more short passes as can be seen by the yards per throw stat

just looking at the yards per throw, brady 8.3 vs. manning's 9.2
if they both went 100 yards it would take brady 2 more throws

multiply that by 50 touchdowns and you get roughly 100 more pass attempts to go the same distance
thats just a different style of thrown and does not mean he tried harder

yeah, because all of those audibles to Rhodes in the Super Bowl showed that...and the Colts being one of the top rushing teams over the past 7-8 years shows that too..and Manning being about the most humble guy in the NFL does to...

and you act like 70 more pass attempts is nothing, thats at least 2 games worth, thats a TON

and obviously to give all the credit of these records to the qb is not too smart
if its this close i'd say they're both equal
im not gonna look at 49 vs 50 touchdowns and say one qb had a better season

I know the NFL Network is just another way for the NFL to suck the money out of its viewers, but seriously Congress doesn't have anything better to worry about?? How about tackling Ticketmaster first if they're gonna waste time with this stuff

"NFL lets networks co-broadcast Patriots-Giants game
Thursday December 27, 12:22 pm ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The National Football League will let broadcast networks CBS and NBC air the New England Patriots' bid to finish a perfect regular season this weekend, reversing a plan to air the game nationally only on the sports league's own cable channel.

The Patriots will play the New York Giants on Saturday after beating the Miami Dolphins earlier this week, leaving it with a perfect 15-0 record in the season to date.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, citing the "potentially historic" element of the game.

The NFL had planned to air the game nationally on the NFL Network cable channel, as well as on local channels in New York and Boston, dismaying viewers who cannot view the network on the three largest U.S. cable operators' basic packages because the parties remain locked in a dispute over fees.

Comcast Corp (NasdaqGS:CMCSA - News), the largest cable TV operator, decided in March to offer the NFL Network as a premium sports tier for an extra cost. The NFL is in similar stand-offs with Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC - News) and Cablevision (NYSE:CVC - News).

NFL Network is available on smaller cable providers, as well as satellite operators DirecTV (NYSETV - News) and Dish Network (NasdaqGSISH - News) and the video services of AT&T (NYSE:T - News) and Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ - News).

CBS and NBC will carry the NFL Network feed in the first simultaneously broadcast football game since the 1967 Super Bowl. The CBS network is part of CBS Corp (NYSE:CBS - News), while NBC is part of NBC Universal, the media conglomerate controlled by General Electric Co.(NYSE:GE - News)

The Dolphins were the last NFL team to finish undefeated in the regular season in 1972 with a 14-0 record, six years before the NFL moved to a 16-game schedule. They went on to finish the season undefeated, winning the Super Bowl.
