because if you and the person in the outside lane are traveling at the exact same speed, you will get around the curve first because you are on the inside and that's an obvious reason for being on the inside to get to where you are going faster like a track star winning the olympics

Doesn't matter to me, so long as they follow those nice little curved lines showing which lane you're supposed to end up in. I love the people who swerve to avoid me and think it's my fault because I stayed where I should have.
