GINGER CRACKLESmy mom has made these for forever. they're REALLY good and addicting. i have the recipe at home which i'll check at lunch, but this one i found online sounds pretty close.3/4 cup vegetable shortening1 cup sugar1 egg1/4 cup molasses2 cups all-purpose flour1 t. cinnamon2 t. baking soda1/4 t. salt2 t. ground ginger2-4 T. sugar for rollingPreheat oven to 350 degrees.Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients (sift them all together) and then add to wet mixture. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour (makes it easier and less messy to roll into balls). Shape into 1" balls and roll in sugar. Place 2" apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 11-13 minutes. Do not overcook. the dough is tough as hell and you'll have to use your hands and a lot of arm strength to get it mixed well. it's worth it though.

sugar cookies or a variety of cookies. lindt truffles.

Fudge - Big lots has this fudge kit thing for $3 and you just add butter. I almost got it to give some to my parents, but my mom makes fudge so I bet they already have some.Peanut butter cookies, then put a hershey kiss on top so it half melts into the cookie. Those are GOOD.You can make home made hot cocoa mix too. Buy Dutch style cocoa powder to put in it and it'll be much better than regular cocoa. The Hershey brand is called something stupid like "special dark" instead of Dutch style cocoa powder FYI.

get some nuts and roast them in the oven with some spices on them. you can make them sweet or savory. i don't have any recipes though, i just like to eat them when i get them....

chocolate cake is not a good idea for a gift basket i think. if you put any frosting on it, and you wrap it up for a gift basket, it will get all messed up and messy and ugly.
12/20/2007 9:54:35 AM
Jelly roll could work though.
12/20/2007 9:56:21 AM
plastic wrap.bitch.you don't deserve chocolate cake anyway
12/20/2007 9:57:58 AM
plastic wrap on the cake with frosting? all the frosting will come off on the plastic wrap.the jelly roll is a good idea though.
12/20/2007 9:59:23 AM

No, it's Rat that hasn't had yule log.Get some cheap plastic wrap (so it doesn't stick to itself very well) and tie it at the top with ribbon. Also, silicone sheets for your cookies. Suckers pop right off, instead of having to try to scrape them off and hope you don't ruin them. A must have for delicate flourless cookies and meringues.Yes, I had to spend WAY too many Christmases helping my mom bake.

This is just the thread I needed! I'm going to make some goodies for my boyfriend's parents and I needed a few more ideas. White Chocolate Covered PretzelsINGREDIENTS * 6 (1 ounce) squares white chocolate * 1 (15 ounce) package mini twist pretzels * 1/4 cup red and green candy sprinkles (optional)DIRECTIONS 1. Melt white chocolate in the top of a double boiler, stirring constantly. 2. Dip pretzel halfway into the white chocolate, completely covering half of the pretzel. Roll in topping if desired, and lay on wax paper. 3. Continue the process until all of the white chocolate is finished. Place in refrigerator for 15 minutes to harden. Store in airtight container.<3]

12/21/2007 1:25:55 AM
Yes im aware that there are plenty of goddamn morons out there who think adding wax to chocolate is acceptable.THEY ARE ALL WRONG!!!! It doesnt matter if parafin wax is edible or not. You're still fucking adding WAX to chocolate!!Im sorry if my reaction seems strong, but this fucking violates every single principle i believe in in my line of work. Wax NEVER has any place whatsoever in food.
