this is one of the 10 shortest days of the year sunlight wise...which means in like 5 days, the days will start getting longer again

some of you may not care, but i'm all sentimental and shit about sunlight and daylight savings time and strange shit like that

when we passed the lower 50 percentile of sunlight days i made sure to celebrate, and i celebrated day light savings time cause it was the last day it would get dark at 6pm for like 4 months

well for the lower 50 percentile i made sure to just be outside when the sun went down and take in the good temps etc....cause even at 50% mark, it still feels hella good outside

for the daylight savings time thing, i just stayed outside until like 6pm and thought to myself "man this is the last time i t will be sunny at this time in like 4 months "

!=/= would cancel each other out

its either != (not equal)

or =/= just a slash crossed through an equal sign saying not equal

i tend to value the sunset time more so then the amount of daylight.

thus i stay happy through October when DST keeps the sun out through 6:30. By late Feb its staying light again till 6 but i get excited when DST comes back and i can hang out in the light past 7.

Due to some weird orbit stuff the time of sunset has been moving later since last week.

well, many different religions (long before christ) all celebrated the winter solstice, the re-birth of the seasons

then of course, christians killed and conquered and said, "hey, let's celebrate jesus's springtime birthday a few months earlier when the pagans have their big thing, that way once we kill them all we can just claim their celebrations as our own, and claim that jesus is the reason for the season!"

so remember folks

jesus is not the reason for the season

chrismas, (xmas, krismas, etc.) is a secular celebration, joined by religions, celebrating a re-birthday, not a birthday

none-the-less,

it's time to celebrate! decorate your tree*, yule log*, candles* and give gifts*

(*all things celebrated during winter solstice that predate jesus, and therefore, not christian)

nah, lets not get into this. not only are you wrong about what happened, which would have been counter productive, you're more wrong about the methods.

yes, pagan solstice holidays were co-oped by christianity
no, christians weren't killing (mostly) and conquering (again mostly) to spread, they subverted instead. christianity in this era was all about conversion, they didn't have the strength or power to subdue the germanic tribes and force christianity on them. so they used similarly dated holidays that everyone was used to celebrating anyways, tossed in christian meaning and relevance, converted the chiefs wife, who then helped convert the chief, which then pretty much dictated to everyone else in his group that they were now christians.

so yes, it once was a pagan holiday and its not a coincidence that christian holidays fall on or near them. And no, they did not forcefully conquer to spread this method.
