Inspired by the Car Max thread. Mine was an 89 Supra that I bought for $200 not running. Ended up putting an alternator, starter, clutch slave cylinder, and exhaust in it (total cost including vehicle $1100) and got 10k miles out of it before it was rod knocking like hell (as those motors tend to do) and I sold it to Carmax[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 3:17 PM. Yeah, I enjoyed my 87' supra while it lasted. Bought at around ~200K. Lasted for over 250k, but after that the repairs weren't worth it. First went master cylinder (~220K), then head gasket (~230K), then radiator and water pump (~235K), then power steering (~240K), and finally an undiagnosed overheating issue that finally spelled it's end. Calipers even started to fail on me at the end too. Actually, I just sold it my mom sold it a few weeks ago to on of my dad's friends from work. I think she was tired of having it in her back yard.[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 5:11 PM. Reason : edit]

1991 Pontiac Sunbird. Wow.Stupid radio in that thing was IMPOSSIBLE to replace. My interior was just like the pic below without the tape deck option. Mine had nothing there but an ashtray. At about 100k, the whole instrument cluster decided to go out. Tried everything under the sun to fix it. Road trips were fun-no cruise control, no fuel gauge, and no odometer. We would gas up about every 3 hours or so on the highway. We would actually look for someone driving a car with a digital dash and see how fast they were going and then follow them [Edited on December 13, 2007 at 9:01 PM. Reason : pic]

shit. i JUST bought it. the only reason it's still on the road is the combined effect of pure luck and some great NIG-welding and saws-allin' by t-dub garage's finest

'82 Chevy Malibu, 3.8 V6. Slooooooow. Nice patina of surface rust on the hood/roof/trunk. A/C didn't work, radio didn't work (I eventually replaced that), lousy MPG, engine made a racket when cold and had to be warmed up for several minutes in cold weather, burned a little oil...Maintenance-wise it wasn't all that bad though. Drove it for 2 years and in that time replaced the carb, alternator, battery, and plug wires. Pic before I got it repainted black:Paid $800 for the car, put about that much again into it between the repairs & repaint, sold to some dude on here (whose name escapes me) for $350 since it badly needed brakes. Not that bad, in retrospect, but the biggest POS of the 6 cars I've owned, to be sure.[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 10:40 PM. Reason : d]

A 1980 Plymouth Champ like this:Product of the 70's oil shortages. Good A->B car with great gas mileage. Got in a small / low speed fender bender and all kinds of stuff got bent up on it. -- Dave

1996 Eagle Talon aka the fake Eclipse. it was a POS because of the stupid chrysler motor they put in the non turbos!!The mitsu engines are alot better.around 100k, clutch goes, head gasket goes, pulley broke on power steering, etc...

I agree, my 420a eclipse was a piece of shit, but it was great because I made $400 off it when I resold it two years later even with all of the dents and shit on it. It was nice not to worry about the car, but it had a nice interior and I put a nice sound system in it.

^^ You cleared the fence? That's pretty sweet.92 Buick regal won it in a raffle where tickets were 100/piece. Parents each go one....mainly electrical issues:Alternator was rebuilt/replaced at least 4 times, Starter went, radiator/cooling issues, transmission wouldn't get into gear when parking so parking brake use was a requirement, and every time the alternator went out, we had to get a new battery (they were spaced out enough so we didn't get to use the warrenty)cost us around 10 grand...probably the lemon on the lot and the dealer knew it couldn't 'sell' it to anyone.

my first car was an 88 hyundai excel that my parents let me drive. That think was a feaking pile. It had no power steering and the interior was so cheap, the seats felt like you were sitting on burlap sacks stuffed with hay. Only had it for a few months before the transmission went. The only 2 gears that worked were 1st and 4th after that.

My first car! I didn't own it but I was responsible for taking care of it...1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. It had been in an unreported wreck (or two or three, none on carfax), had some shitty bodywork done to it, had two previous owners that didn't do proper basic maintenance on it (based on the fact that it ran like shit and had lots of problems that could've been prevented by following the basic maintenance specified in the manual). It had lots of rust (it was from Maryland), and got the death wobble at 52 and 72 mph. Getting on the highway was terrifying and the brake light always came on (though nobody could find anything wrong with the brakes, the ABS pump ran all the time rather loudly). 3/4 Tires on the car were matched, the spare in the back was completely dryrotted and destroyed, and the interior had been worn out (but got that magic armor-all touchup job so you couldn't see all the damage until after it wore off).In short hauls it got 10-12 mpg as I drove it, and the thing had an extremely hard time getting into 4-high and would get stuck in 4-lo even when you shifted it back into 2wd at the appropriate speeds. You had to wiggle it back and forth (forward/reverse a couple times) then something would go "bang" and it'd be back in 2wd. After a while of owning it the vacuum lines all rotted/sucked/whatever and had to get replaced, then it had a series of unknown sources of vacuum leaks that caused it to not start/run like shit/cut off. It killed 2 batteries and needed a new alternator... This was all in about 2 years. Major money hole.It was a good car to learn to drive in, but I wouldn't put a kid of mine in a car like that. After that we gave it to my bro (lolerpants), it was backed into/driven into a pole. We then repaired the body work on it and as soon as we tried the fog lights, the wires leading up to the fog lights caught on fire and destroyed a new set of OEM fog lamps. It was sold back to the original dealer shortly thereafter.I now drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and am fairly certain I want to stay away from Jeeps for a while. Not bashing the brand entirely, I just uh... Yeah my experience blew. First one was a POS, second one has potential for being one. At least this one doesn't cut off all the time...

yeah, that's what mine had too. it'd been sitting for 6-8 years before i got it. put some fresh gas in it, a battery, and 4 new tires and drove the hell out of it. drove it back and forth from raleigh to oak island for almost every weekend for one summer, never missed a beat. sold it to some guy in louisburg for like $300. it did some surprising things for a 2wd out at new hope rd.
