simonn, that's the best part. What he's sayin' there is that amateurs are doing everything for nothing because they think it will get them more work or better work in the future. What's happening is now is the companies (like warner bros.) no longer think they should pay at all for things like that. The parallel is that the writers guild is wanting a pay increase on hard copy sales (from 5 cent per DVD/video to 10 cent per) and some sort of cut on ad revenue for internet distributions. Currently shows and movies that use a digital distribution model (IE, the instant Netflix, watching on the NBC/CBS websites, TiVo download service) pay no royalties to writers. Harlan is absolutely right - Warner Bros. isn't out on the street with a tin cup.

^no different from writing the song 50 years ago and still wanting money for it. The precedent they're setting is that every song transmitted over the internet doesn't have to pay royalties. It's all free. Every book sold digitally doesn't have to pay a writer. It's just stupid. I think they're right, and they should get their money.

I figured that writers are on salary for a show. So they get paid to write. Am I wrong? Or do people just send in scripts of shit and hope they get on tv, and then they just get a thankyou in return? And actually people do go to the doctor and expect not to pay anything.[Edited on December 12, 2007 at 6:23 PM. I bet he was paid already when they did the interview the first time.I agree that what the writers are asking for in their strike is valid, but that was a dumb argument that guy made.
