They get the 49ers pick this year. Granted the 49ers dont end the season on a little winning streak, they are going to have a top 5 pick. This kind of shit just isn't fair.
12/11/2007 11:51:16 PM
it's called being smart, that's why they're undefeated right now.
12/11/2007 11:52:37 PM
they are gods gift to football
12/11/2007 11:53:24 PM
Cowboys have the Dawgs first pick also
12/11/2007 11:54:40 PM
They will probably get the top LB prospect in the draft, their LB corps is probably the oldest in the NFL.
12/11/2007 11:55:35 PM
How did they even get this pick from the 49ers? I cant recall.
12/11/2007 11:57:47 PM
The Niners traded a 2007 fourth-round pick (110th overall) and their 2008 first-round pick in exchange for the Patriots' 2007 first-round pick (28th overall).
12/11/2007 11:58:54 PM
If they want a LB they'll move down.I could see Dallas trading their 2 first-round picks to move up and take a chance at getting McFadden.
12/12/2007 12:00:13 AM
i hope not
12/12/2007 12:04:09 AM
there's no way the Cowboys can trade their two 20s picks for a top 5 pick. They have to throw in more.
12/12/2007 12:05:45 AM
i see the pats trading down mostly cause i dont seem them willing to pay top 5 money
12/12/2007 12:09:12 AM
^ True. Plus Moss will be a FA at the end of the season, and he's gonna demand major $$$, especially if they win it all this year.I don't see the cowboys taking, or even attempting to take, McFadden, they have two very good RB's already.
12/12/2007 12:12:25 AM
you saw this on yahoo too?i felt about the same way when i saw it

Did they not lose their first round pick due to that whole cheating thing? If so does that just mean they lose "theirs" ie San Fran gets screwed? lol
12/12/2007 12:23:21 AM
12/12/2007 12:24:57 AM
^^ they lost their 1st round pick, not the one they got from the 49ers.should have like a 2-5 and a 32. But they only lost the 32 (or whatever, if they happen to lose 2 games)[Edited on December 12, 2007 at 12:27 AM. Reason : .]

this is why the spygate penalties were hated so muchbecause they hardly penalized at all
12/12/2007 1:07:09 AM
the better question is, why the hell did they need to cheat to beat the Jets?
12/12/2007 1:13:46 AM
The cheating thing is so overvalued. All teams in the NFL do some sort of this, the patriots just got caught which is why there wasn't a greater penalty.Patriots will take their first round top 5 pick and trade it away and turn it into more picks in the future. That is what they do and they do it better than anyone. They draft smart, trade their picks smart (for future good picks ) and sign the right free agents.
12/12/2007 1:18:07 AM
I have known about the pick for the whole season (they talked about it a lot during spygate), but I don't think most of us knew the 49'ers would be this terrible.I figured it would be a mid round pick.
12/12/2007 2:11:48 AM
Julius Jones will be a FA at the end of this season and the Cowboys have already hinted that they do not plan on re-signing him. Jerry Jones has been rumored to be a big fan of McFadden and very interested in landing him. So look for them to package something to move up and try to get him if they can. Even if they have to over-pay to get him.And yes I think Moss will demand a 4-5 year deal worth quite a bit, and I don't think NE pays him that. You have to remember that before this year, NE has always been a team of mediocre WR's that over-achieve. They know they can survive without Moss, it'll be whether or not Moss is willing to take less money than he's worth to win more championships and get himself a place in Canton.
12/12/2007 10:04:53 AM
Cans someone break down the how NFL teams pay players, they have a cap, which means every team's payroll is similar give or take? So how does Craft manage to pay Brady 6M a year when clearly he's the best player in the NFL, but for argument's sake, I'll say he's tied with Manning and say he should be making what Manning makes.
12/12/2007 10:11:12 AM
^^ i think that was the plan before Cleveland started winning. Two picks in the 20-30 range wont get you to the #1 or #2 pick which is where McFadden will most likely go. Even if they add more picks to the package, the elite talent is usually in the first 15 picks. Their trade partner will likely need a top 15 pick for their own team. I think the Cowboys go for a Felix Jones or Steve Slaton with one pick and a WR or CB with the other. Also the Cowboys with very few needs are in prime position to take this year's Brady Quinn - top pick that falls unexpectedly.
12/12/2007 10:23:08 AM
^^The thing is he basically pitches the chance to win a superbowl and players like Brady take pay-cuts to bring in more talent. Brady understands that he'd rather have another ring than a few million dollars. I'm pretty sure Manning has taken some pay-cuts or contract restructures to help keep talent around him, most of the great/unselfish players will.I wouldn't be surprised if either Brady or one of the other players steps up to take a pay-cut to keep Moss around next year. I was surprised they paid A. Thomas the money they paid him last year, but he has been solid for them this year.I just don't see the Patriots taking a LB that high, because there isn't a stand-out LB like an A.J. Hawk in this year's draft. They could easily slide down to around 12-13 and get a solid LB and save some money, which Craft loves.I don't know who will jump up, probably will depend on who declares early, but someone will and they'll give the Pats a lot in return.
12/12/2007 7:40:11 PM
Brady took a significant pay cut, or restructured his salary, I cant remember which one, in order to bring in Randy Moss.
12/12/2007 7:42:13 PM
I thought Moss would become a free agent after this season? Or did he recently sign an extension?
12/12/2007 8:04:48 PM
Nope, moss is gonna demand some phat loot. How's a brotha gonna smoke up on what the pats are paying him?
12/12/2007 8:08:58 PM
Well they are still paying him like $5mil a year. You can still buy a lot of weed on that. I see him sticking with the Pats for far less than his market value. He has been totally under control this year, having the best year of his career, and he and Brady have a great chemistry. He seems totally happy playing there.

Colt BrennenBrady is already getting old and you dont get ones like this often

12/12/2007 8:25:09 PM
Fuck the Browns, I was all ready for McFadden to come as soon as we made that draft day trade but since he is out of the picture I think the Boys might see if Barber can be the every down back and just have some below par back-up (Tyson Thompson). I think we need CBs and maybe a decent WR. I like Crayton and all but another WR wouldn't hurt.So I'm guessing we get a 20-25 pick and the 32nd
12/12/2007 9:01:36 PM
I agree with what others have said. NE may trade down for LB's and save some money. But also another thought. They take Glen Dorsey and add youth on the on the Line. Either way, their front office is the best in NFL. Them and San Antonio of the NBA...they must be cahoots on how to run a pro team. III
12/12/2007 9:07:24 PM
It will be interesting with Moss, if he gets his ring, I can see him demanding money, because he'll have that ever elusive ring. If they don't win it all, I think he'll sign a 3 year deal
12/12/2007 9:12:00 PM
I think Moss may surprise us all if he gets the ring. I believe he may very well sign a new contract, but at same time not take as much as what people think he will take. I bet he agrees to negotiate for the betterment of the team. That long with the draft pick may very well lead to another ring. III

12/12/2007 11:11:52 PM
some of you need to get out of sports talk. I hope the Colt Brennan comment was a joke, although I'm guessing it isn't.There is a salary cap, but players can get whatever money they want, that is why some are underpaid and some are overpaid. Moss will resign with the Patriots, he'll get good money and take a little less to stay there. It is real complicated because of the signing bonus and how the money can be munipulated under the cap structure. A lot of times teams back-end contracts, so they can sign players today but then later down the road they get fucked (see Titans post Super Bowl). They'll trade the pick for later picks and picks in next year's draft. It is what the Pats do better than anyone.
12/12/2007 11:26:27 PM
fuck the god damn Patriots[Edited on December 12, 2007 at 11:29 PM. Reason : .]
12/12/2007 11:28:18 PM
so here is my question: maybe it is too simple but someone enlighten meIf the Patriots are by far at using the draft, trading picks, etc. and everyone sees that they are so good at it every single year, why do other teams not see this and follow suit? Are most of the owners in the league just not as smart (notice I did say most and not all). Obviously I can see that the Patriots have the leverage this coming draft holding a top 5 pick but that is not the case every year esp. with them usually having one of the better records in the league.
12/13/2007 12:50:38 AM
Did you really just ask that?
12/13/2007 12:53:02 AM
Because they deal with teams like the 49ers, miami, and the raiders who wouldn't compete on new england's level regardless of what they did. Thus, they aren't worried about it
12/13/2007 12:53:53 AM
like i said before in about 3 other threads,i see them trading down and grabbing laurinitus(sp) and a db in the 1st/early rd for their #2 pick.i see them going defense with their first 3-4 picks for sure
12/13/2007 12:57:18 AM
Their defense is good enough. Why not just throw in Mcfadden into the backfield and make their offense totally overkill. When you can score 30+ a game at will, even 40+, your defense is shit at that point.
