Someone convince me he is the missing piece...
12/9/2007 2:40:16 AM
man i fucking hope so
12/9/2007 2:50:28 AM
playing him means we can shift people over so we don't have costner or fells matching up a against guys who can take them off the dribble.???
12/9/2007 2:51:05 AM
12/9/2007 2:57:57 AM
bwhahahaha. fells was "guarding" hinnant[Edited on December 9, 2007 at 3:06 AM. Reason : fells plays good defense in 1 out of 3 games]
12/9/2007 3:02:52 AM
degand is not the problem get ur shit strait
12/9/2007 3:28:53 AM
Degand sucked ass tonight....how could you defend him after his performance?Ive said all along I thought Johnson would start, I hope I am right.
12/9/2007 4:13:23 AM
im not sure if the "Players" are the problem. The "offense" we are running right now is not the same as what we were running last year. Everytime hickson is in the game, we spread the other 4 players around the perimeter and have him alone down inside. That is not the same offense we played last year. Last year, at the end of the year when we were kickin ass, we were taking advantage of mismatches and posting grant on smaller guys, and letting Costner float around and bang in the post. Right now, we're playing to hickson and thats not winning us games.
12/9/2007 4:40:59 AM
so when does Marques become eligible to play? january?
12/9/2007 5:51:23 AM
i'll start the official facebook groupbecause my "Ben McCauley will lead us to the promised land" group obviously did the trick
12/9/2007 7:23:56 AM
12/9/2007 7:50:29 AM
Did I ever tell you about the time Marques Johnson took me out to go get a drink with him? We go off looking for a bar and we can't find one. Finally Marques takes me to a vacant lot and says, 'Here we are.' We sat there for a year and a half — until sure enough, someone constructs a bar around us. Well, the day they opened we ordered a shot, drank it, and then burned the place to the ground. Marques yelled over the roar of the flames, 'Always leave things the way you found 'em!'
12/9/2007 9:56:03 AM
12/9/2007 10:53:45 AM
yeah just like ferguson was gonna do last year right
12/9/2007 11:08:10 AM
TENNESSEE > IOWA ST.THERE'S A REASON DEGAND WENT TO IOWA STATE AND TRANSFERRED
12/9/2007 11:13:41 AM
from what i've heard, johnson hasnt been overly impressive in practice...
12/9/2007 11:52:15 AM
if he's not in the gym shooting 3's right now he may as well quit the team.
12/9/2007 11:55:58 AM
At least Johnson will keep Grant and Ferguson from getting minutes at the 2. Grant is slow enough as it is at the 3, and we can't afford to have him playing out of position again this year. Javi's play is actually more important than Johnson's because if Javi can step it up and get more minutes at the point, Degand can move more to the 2 to spell Fells. Degand is currently our best 3 point shooter right now at 46.2% and has the second best field goal percentage (47.4%) next to Hickson. If nothing else, it will help our defense, since Degand repeatedly gets beat off the dribble at PG.[Edited on December 9, 2007 at 12:51 PM. Reason : .]
12/9/2007 12:50:20 PM
^ i will venture to say that you do not quite know what you're talking about.
12/9/2007 12:59:46 PM
^^show me the stats...fells probably has way more shots than degand
12/9/2007 1:36:43 PM
fells is 21/53 and 10/31 from 3. Degand is 18/38 and 6/13 from 3. And that fucker needs to learn how to make free throws, he's 11/22 on the season. [Edited on December 9, 2007 at 1:47 PM. Reason : ]
12/9/2007 1:41:27 PM
I'm not saying Degand should start at the 2, but it would help if he could get 5-10 minutes to spell Fells. Defensively, Javi is better than Degand at the 1 and Degand is better defensively at the 2 than Grant or Ferguson, so the sooner Javi steps up, the better.[Edited on December 9, 2007 at 2:31 PM. 12/9/2007 2:28:53 PM
javi sucks
12/9/2007 2:51:15 PM
12/9/2007 9:30:49 PM
Marques Johnson Julius Mays will lead us to the promised land
12/9/2007 9:37:20 PM
I don't see this team getting better down the stretch like last year. Something just seems weird. Hickson doesn't know how to play in an offense, and it seems like this coaching staff doesn't know how to teach him to play in it.
12/9/2007 9:41:03 PM
12/10/2007 1:08:50 AM
Javi does seem to have quick hands and good anticipation on D, but he's short and he leaves his man too often. Degand doesnt force the amount of lose balls, but he's blocking shots and he's long, and doesn't get burned as often leaving his man. And Degand doesn't panic on offense as much.
12/10/2007 6:00:41 AM
Javi also seems to have poor defensive posture guarding the ball handler. He seems to have his weight shifted back on his heels, and struggles to keep his man in front of him or challenge shots because of it.

12/10/2007 9:23:25 AM
pretty sure its after next weds (after finals are over)
12/10/2007 9:28:17 AM
bttt for johnson playing on friday.
12/17/2007 11:39:51 AM
This a good thing....even if he isn't a great player or a PG he eliminates Ferguson from seeing the court during meaningful minutes.
12/17/2007 12:34:58 PM
that has already happened regardless.
12/17/2007 12:37:32 PM
Have we heard anything about how he plays? I mean, has Lowe had anyone question him on what Johnson will bring to the floor? I just don't want to get my hopes up for this guy coming in.
12/17/2007 12:42:31 PM
he's not the second coming of jesus, but he looked alright in the red/white game. more of a halfcourt pointguard than farnold is.
12/17/2007 12:50:11 PM
boy i'll tell ya 1 thing thats more and more clear every game...javi gonzalez is absolute garbagei mean my god he is not good. he doesnt know what to do with the ball most of the time, and throws it away more than gavin does now. and thats hard to do
12/17/2007 12:59:14 PM
12/17/2007 1:02:57 PM
12/17/2007 1:11:12 PM
Johnson's elligibility will definately help. I'm not sure if he will be the missing piece, but he will be important. Hopefully he can shoot the 3. Our guy's that can shoot the three either arent getting open looks or arent taking the open looks. Our opponents are just crashing the boards and double/triple teaming hickson and mccauley when they are in because we have no 3 point threat whatsoever. The missing piece right now is the 3, if Johnson can bring that, then he is the missing piece.Oh, and it could just be that hickson goes straight to the basket when he gets the ball and doesnt even look for the open 3....when he's getting triple teamed he still shoots it up....there has to be an open man somewhere!!!
12/17/2007 1:12:37 PM
Who would have ever thought that NC State fans would be complaining about lack of 3 point shooting?
12/17/2007 1:31:37 PM
hes definitely more of a half court guy, which is why he didn't fit in that well under Pearl. Was our third string PG after Ramar Smith and Jordan Howell. He is a pretty decent player but I wouldn't expect too much too soon unless hes learned a lot in the year off.[Edited on December 17, 2007 at 1:48 PM. Reason : f]
12/17/2007 1:41:45 PM
i think he will see more minutes at the 2 than at pointpg play has not been the major problem this season; it's our 3 point shooting i dont really like the lineup when fells is out with gavin or horner trying to stay with one of the other team's guards...they really aren't quick enough and get beat off the dribble or loose their man quite a bit
12/17/2007 1:53:29 PM
Yea I definately think we need him to back up the 2...Javi can back up 1, although he hasn't showed much yet. i'd still rather Javi, backup the point than have Horner or Grant trying to play the 2.
12/17/2007 2:43:48 PM
javi has been fine. he's a freshman and so he's made stupid mistakes, but he's also shown flashes of greatness....some great passes, really scrappy defensive plays...he's ok now, but he'll be good eventually
12/17/2007 2:49:31 PM
^ i concur.
12/17/2007 3:06:03 PM
I'm willing to cut Javi some slack. At least he shows some heart and defensive scrap on the court. He's straight out of high school with a good upside.
12/17/2007 3:11:57 PM
^^^ was thinking the same thing. He's a freshman who wasn't highly touted. Nobody expected him to be the second coming of chris corchiani in his first season. He'll get better. And as of right now, I don't really he see him being a lot worse than our other guards. It isn't saying much, but at least he has the room for the most improvement. Wish I could say the same for Fells.V That's what I meant. It's obvious he's not willing to give any more effort than he already does, and so there's isn't much hope that he'll make progress over what he's already done.[Edited on December 17, 2007 at 3:44 PM. 12/17/2007 3:30:54 PM
fells is seemingly limitless w/ his athleticism. he just doesn't really care that much it seems.
12/17/2007 3:38:41 PM
^ Yea Fells is a great athlete but a bad basketball player. which equals streaky
