From Billboard.com...Led Zeppelin will play its first U.S. show since July 24, 1977, this June at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn., according to an email published in industry commentator Bob Lefsetz's newsletter. The report also says Metallica will headline the event.Speculation about additional shows for Zeppelin, which will play a stated one-off Dec. 10 in London in tribute to late Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun, has been buzzing for weeks.A Bonnaroo spokesperson had no comment on the email. A Led Zeppelin spokesperson could not be reached at deadline.Summer Zeppelin shows would reportedly conflict with a tour by frontman Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, which is presently being booked. However, Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has played at Bonnaroo on several occasions, most recently this summer when he jammed on his old band's songs with Ben Harper and the Roots' ?uestloveAs for Metallica, Bonnaroo would likely provide a launching pad for the group's next album, expected sometime in 2008 via Elektra.

Metallica may or may not play Bonnaroo, but there is one thing that is for sure; they are dicks.
12/3/2007 2:09:37 PM
I don't know how I feel about this (led zeppelin, i fucking hate the metallica rumor). LZ is my favorite band of all time, but this could mean I don't get a ticket, if the "first US show" thing is true, they will sell out like mad. Apparently there aren't going to be early bird tix this year, which I was banking on since they are around $50 cheaper.I guess it could be ok, since they sell ~80,000 tix, but you know ticket brokers would devour them.Metallica on the other hand just makes me go WTFthey represent everything Bonnaroo is not.[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 6:16 PM. yesterday at borders i saw that robert plant and allison krauss had cut an album togetheryou could have knocked me over with a feather
12/3/2007 6:19:01 PM
They could record a 2 hour set of the wind blowing over Jimmy Hendrix's grave and I'd rather pay to hear it than give Metallica any more of my money.
12/3/2007 6:19:05 PM
not to mention the crowd metallica would bring. NOT chill.if there was a good midnight show, I would strongly consider skipping M to get a good spot for that.[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 6:24 PM. Reason : hfds]
12/3/2007 6:24:00 PM
yeah the tool crowd at this years 'roo was out of place enoughi cant imagine a metallica crowdi'll be there either way
12/3/2007 6:27:53 PM
well yeah if I get a ticket I'm there, I can't wait.Jimmy page in superjam plz.tool was great though.[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 6:31 PM. Reason : fhsd]
12/3/2007 6:31:39 PM
12/3/2007 6:38:56 PM
true, but i assume metallica has a much larger fanbase than tool.
12/3/2007 7:59:48 PM
i used to like metallica, and i used to think tool was gayso, well,i still think tool is gaythat's 1/2 gay vs. 2/2 gay!
12/3/2007 8:03:59 PM
ive seen metallica twice, say what you will but its a damn good show
12/3/2007 9:27:46 PM
I'm not disputing that, I just think they are far from right for bonnaroo...at least tool has some psychadelic trippy aspects.[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 9:33 PM. Reason : jsfrfd]
12/3/2007 9:32:27 PM
the worst part will be that if they headline, it'll be the only thing going on during their setlike during the police this yearwhile they were busy sucking ass, it would have been nice to mosey on to another stage
12/3/2007 9:36:25 PM
yeah I left the police early for a good FLips spot, which is what I would do if metallica headlined.. stay for a couple decent songs and then peace out.
12/3/2007 10:51:03 PM
So what's up with the concern about the different "crowds"?Some dude's jabbering about the Metallica crowd and how they're "NOT chill." The festival is months away, and he's already being a NOT-chill, exclusive douchebag.Ninety percent of the people there couldn't give two shits about the music, and y'all are worried about a group of Metallica fans who would actually go for the music...Y'all are just so peaceful, so chill...wouldn't want some music fans to disrupt the vibe that 18-year-old posers have worked so hard to create...
12/3/2007 11:19:36 PM
12/3/2007 11:20:53 PM
^^not true.I'm sorry certain bands do not belong at certain festivals.I guess I would be a NOT chill douchebag if I got upset about Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the disco, The Defotnes, Between the Buried and Me, and Coheed and Cambria were invited to bonnaroo.
12/3/2007 11:30:18 PM
^^It's okay. You called me doll.

^Pretentious elitists? WTF are you talking about? Smoking premo weed and tolerating jam sessions does not a pretentious elitist make. And, yeah, I'm sure people do "dig the vibe the music puts out," but not showering for a few days and talking about how such and such set was totally rad doesn't make you any better, any chiller than some Tool fans or some Metallica fans. It's not like you're listening to epic arias, and you gotta exclude the guy who prefers David Allan Coe for obvious reasons...And, no, you do not have the best taste in music. Your suggesting so highlights what I'm getting at here.

Too bad that clip only showed like 3 seconds of continuous music.
12/10/2007 9:49:12 PM
Yeah, all the decent clips keep getting deleted from YouTube.
12/10/2007 9:50:13 PM
apparently they rocked.some reviews i saw said the only time you could tell they were old was when there were closeups of them on the big screens..
12/10/2007 10:02:40 PM
I've seen just about every Metallica tour from Ride The Lightning through The Black Album.with the possible exception of the Master of Puppets tour, ive got to say that Metallica is one of the shittiest fucking live acts ive ever seen. I dont know about M of P show, because i was so wasted. I didn't stop seeing double until after Ozzy came on anyhow, i used to be a big Metallica fan. but it was no secret that James Hetfield couldn't play or sing worth a fuck outside the studio.i hate them now. they're just another bunch of aged millionaire sellouts riding on the mythology of what they pretended to represent 20 years ago.

12/12/2007 12:31:29 AM
unfortunately they won't.they should.but they wont. they're bought and paid for.

isn't bonnaroo a hippyfest? (no offense)metallica and hippyfest don't mesh to me.
1/10/2008 7:20:56 AM
^ It was just a rumor but you're right, they would not fit at a hippyfest
1/10/2008 8:36:45 AM
I cant imagine how many people would buy tickets and show up only for the Led Zep performance
1/10/2008 8:44:58 AM
^yeah i probably would.
1/10/2008 9:07:48 AM
^yeah and tickets would be $$$$$
1/10/2008 11:03:12 AM
it's not as much a pure hippyfest as it used to be.i mean last year they had tool and the police. and the flaming lips, white stripes, wolfmother, billions of indie bands.all-good in West Va is the real hippyfest
