Inserting code at the cursor is not a trivial change.

Parsing a post for a user name is also not a trivial change (actually it is, but do you really awnt the server checking EVERY word in your post against the user db?).

Parsing for a url is easy, because it looks for "http," it doesn't search Google for every word until it finds a valid URL.
