(I'm a graphic artist for a local-interest magazine) I don't know what these people want from me... said they sensed a "lack of dedication" and that my work is "adequate" and "the minimum", that my designs go through too many proofs before approval. Sorry, it's not my fault that the sales staff and clients keep making copy changes and flip-flop back and forth over what typeface to use or what image they want. Adequate? People are always telling me how great my stuff is! Lack of dedication? I do get my work done quickly but we have these things called deadlines, sorry I don't toil for days over a 1/2 page ad. They also said there's a lack of communication between me and the salespeople, but I can't help it if they're out of the goddamn office half the time when I need to talk to them. Said I should spend my downtime reading and studying design... I did plenty of that in design school, folks. If I have a lot of downtime I'm supposed to tell my supervisor... and get assigned more work? Get downgraded to part-time? At this point part of me wants to move to Cherokee and be a professional gambler. Fuck work.

I was told a few weeks ago that I am killing the team because I am "coming into work hungover" and I "sleep during meetings" and that I am generally not working very hard at all...then after pointing out all the crappy work I've been doing my boss asked me what I thought about that and I said, "I agree"

this means you're supposed to tell someone above you when you can't reach the ad folks b/c they are out of the office, they assume, since you apparently inform them of very little, that you simply aren't doing anything.

if you don't keep people in the loop they are gonna assume the worst
