taste budsmy mouth became a war zone over the last 1.5 days. what can I do? I gargled some hydrogen peroxide and my mouth fizzled all overI bought some Anbesol, but only helps with the pain and no healing. The canker sores are behind my tongue at the back of my mouth.

Eat any citrus lately?
11/28/2007 10:17:59 PM
haha, i had to look it up--i've had them before, i just never knew what they were

Treatment for canker sores SUCKS. Don't just gargle the peroxide, you need to directly apply it to the sores.Take a q-tip, put peroxide on it, and rub it over the sore until you scrape all the white part off. This will hurt like a BITCH and it will bleed when you do this, but it WILL NOT heal unless you get under the white part. Then, once you have the sores "opened" so to speak, gargle salt water to clean them out. Do this 2 - 3 times a day. This SUCKS, but it will get the swelling to go down to the point where they hurt less pretty quickly, and then they'll heal completely in 1 - 2 weeks.

^^that would sucki read on the wikipedia that large amounts of sugars can cause them. i ate a giant bag of skittles and starbursts the other day, and chewed them with my back teeth, where the sores are]
11/28/2007 10:22:31 PM
i've had to put peroxide in my mouth one time--i'd rather have the sore
11/28/2007 10:23:02 PM
I get these things frequently. From my understanding there is nothing you can do to speed up the process of healing them because they have to heal naturally. Generally I peroxide them directly with the q tip (but I don't scrape under as someone mentioned) and I kill it with Oragel or Ambasol. It numbs it enough to be bareable. I can say there are certain foods you should certainly avoid.I have heard if you take L Lysing (a supplement) it helps in preventing them if you get them chronically.
11/28/2007 10:34:40 PM
i haven't had one in years...
11/28/2007 10:36:32 PM
i get them anytime i bite my mouth, the only solution i have ever foudn that works quickly is burnign them with chemical cautirization stuff ie silver nitrate, other than that deal, and they suck ass
11/28/2007 11:26:02 PM
^ exactly the same with me since I can remember. I used to go to the doctor for the brown match looking thing, guessing that's what you're talking about. Now I just deal with them. You can get those over the counter?

also, eat more folic acid

Duke doctors developed a prescription med called "Magic Mouthwash." It is the best thing I've ever used for any type of mouth sores. But I second the thought that you should probably try to keep your own juices out of your mouth from now on...
11/29/2007 2:19:19 AM
Duke's mouthwash, gargling salt-water, and orabase always helped mine when I had braces and shit.

my gp usually prescribes corlan pellets - you apply them directly to the sores/ulcers and they clear in a few days[Edited on November 29, 2007 at 5:58 AM. Reason : .]

You have to mix peroxide with water you homos. There is no treatment as has been said only things that can make it better, your body heals these naturally.

listerine seems to do the job for me

NC State makes a type of milk called Sweet Acidophilus. You can get it at most grocery stores, only in half gallons, although sometimes it sells out fairly quickly. (usually a purple label) I used to get mouth sores religiously, and the doctor recommended drinking this kind of milk. It is WONDERFUL in preventing mouth sores, and does help getting rid of ones you have as well. It's something to do with the bacteria in the milk, but it works great

every treatment listed in this thread works just as well as doing absolutely nothingthey go away when they're ready to go away
11/29/2007 9:42:20 AM
^thats bullshit.. apparently you've never had bad ones or chronic ones

I usually chop the white tastebuds off with a toe-nail clipper. And put Anbesol on the rest of it.

There is a product called Gly-oxide that works really well for these types of sores

I get these bad a lot. Used to take Lysine and found that they never work. I have never found a solution that works for these, or preventing them. never heard of sugars causing these. From my research no one really knows where they come from. All I know is that I have gotten some on my mouth that keeps me from being able to eat without being in horrible pain and it sucks.
11/29/2007 11:34:43 AM
salt ftw
11/29/2007 11:56:51 AM
i usually just do the warm salt water thing once or twice a day. Doin this, especially if you do it early, gets rid of them in a few days. They do suck though, i have one right now actually
11/29/2007 2:09:50 PM
are these the same as those little white bumps that form on the tip of your tongue and hurt mildly bad, but are more annoying than anything? If those aren't wanker sores, what are they?

i got them like a plague throughout a good bit of college... warm water and baking soda seemed to be the best thing
7/7/2008 8:52:45 PM
^ will try that. how long before they cleared up?i've tried just about everything, but this one had not made the list.
7/7/2008 9:56:32 PM
not long at all (few days) but it really seemed to help with the whole pain part of it. i had had those sores for a week or so though. i've read that it's best to start treating them as soon as they start to appear and it's possible to either stop them or clear them up within a couple days.
7/7/2008 11:56:00 PM
^^This isn't exactly a treatment, but if you get them pretty often it would be worth it to switch to a toothpaste that is free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. I used to get these bastards all the time, I would have 2 or 3 in my mouth over 50% of the time. After reading around a bit I saw the SLS free toothpaste recommendation and tried that about 2 or so years ago. Ever since then they have pretty much cleared up completely. I now only get them when I bite my lip or checks and even then they only take a few days to heal up with no special treatment, not 1 week or more like before.
7/8/2008 12:44:12 AM
Brew some tea then use the wet tea bag as a compress... just hold it there like it is dip/chew. The tannic acid has been shown to speed up recovery from canker sores.
7/8/2008 12:54:17 AM
I always use Benadryl. burns like a bitch but it numbs it and generally goes away in 5-7 days
7/8/2008 1:49:37 AM
Dude what the fuck? That's no canker sore, thats herpes.

Fry thanks for the info. I am usually pretty good about treating the sores as soon as I can see them appearing, I guess mine just don't go away as fast. It is not uncommon for them to stay as long as 2 or 3 full weeks. I didn't get a chance to try the baking soda trick last night because I didn't have any, but I'll see about that tonight.
7/8/2008 7:34:43 AM
i get them anytime i drink lots of orange juice
