Anyone know if a speeding ticket in a school zone has to be written as such, or if it just says 34 in a 25 and the area is listed as school is it the same as any other speeding ticket? The difference appears to be speeding in a school zone is 3 points, but speeding up to 9 over anywhere else is no points. I need to figure out which is which. Also, didnt have my license with me, from what i have read this is zero points? Search in previous topics came up empty.

I think unless the ticket says you were in a school zone then you did not get charged with speeding in a school zone, just speeding.

I got nailed going 51 in a 25 once, which was also a school zone, and also a work zone. Luckily I was wearing my work shirt, driving a busted up jeep, and the cop was a good ole' boy. He only wrote me up for speeding (of course after pointing out how bad he could have fucked me). I hired a lawyer and it got reduced to 9 over.

Oh yeah, and (obligatory) call James Crouch!!!

^ That will get dismissed as long as you bring your license to court.

I got a ticket for speeding in a school zone while driving a school bus for the YMCA. I was doing 43 in a 25, it was downhill though. Needless to say I no longer drive school buses for the Y or anyone else.

When your driving privilege is reinstated, all previous driver license points are canceled.

i never said you couldn't be arrested for it; hell, you can be arrested for anything--frank lloyd wright was arrested for human trafficking once. the point is that driving without a license in your possession doesn't entail driving without a license

That's a handy trick. I wouldn't mind knowing how you got that one pulled off.

Actually 42 in a 35 isnt too bad i dont think, it just happened to be 8:43 instead of 8:45. So it was technically a 25 mph zone instead of a 35.

I got 58 in a 25 school zone and my lawyer had to beg and plead to get it reduced to reckless.

It sort of depends on the DA.

(response to initial post)

maybe one day when you have kids you'll understand how dumb they are, and how they run out into the street without looking. not to mention other parents, who do not pay enough attention to where their children are and what they are doing... like the lady in my neighborhood that lets her 4 year old children play out in the street. there's a reason why speeding in a school zone carries such a large penalty.

I'm pretty sure they're starting a crackdown on this.

every way on my way to 440 on six forks rd. i see a parked cop car in a parking lot with a radar gun on the radio with a biker cop some 500ft away.

just a heads up

OK, I have a question regarding this topic:

This morning I missed the school zone sign (I was in N. Raleigh in an area I had never been before) and got stopped for 47 in a 25 school zone. The cop was nice and he said he would reduce it to 34 in a 25 and write it up as a non school zone infraction which would mean no points instead of 3.

Here's the thing: At the top where it says "what you are charged with" it has Operate a motor vehicle on a street or highway at a speed of 34MPH in a 25 MPH Zone. But at the bottom where it has other information under Area it still says "school" and under speed it says "R 47 S"

Anybody know what the deal is? Am I ok to just mail this one in and pay the fine and be done with it, or is that other information gonna screw me?

having 2 "reduced to 9 over" will put points on your insurance

^^ a lot of RPD do that.

They write in what you were really doing so that if you go to court and try to get it reduced they will not reduce it twice. I was in a car one time where the cop told the girl if she tried to get it reduced again they would change it back to the initial charge. I am not sure if they would really do that though.

Have you ever had a ticket before?

Yeah, a shit load when I was young but my last ticket was in 2001. The cop said I had a "clean license"

Reduced 47mph school zone.

I guess he didn't figure that you would be able to decipher shorthand?

He did you a big ass favor. A lawyer might be able to get it dropped completely though.

Yeah, but is it worth getting a lawyer? If I don't get any points, what would be the disadvantage of mailing in the court fee and fines ($135) and being done with it?

what about 45 in a 25 school zone at 3:27pm

never had a ticket or moving violation or anything else.

I mean a lawyer is gonna be $250 all fees/fines included. So once you factor in the ticket is $135 all you paying is $115 for the lawyer.

A good lawyer will work like hell toward a dismissal because thats another $135 in his pocket.

^^^ your ticket was only $135 with fees/court costs!?! i got a registration violation that would have been $145 if i mailed it in! jesus. of course if didn't pay anything in the end. just went to the courthouse and showed them my renewed registration.
