A Hooters Girl in Burlington, NC was diagnosed with Hodgkin's
Lymphoma on October 26, 2007. Her name is Tanya and here is part of a
message she posted yesterday on myspace:

"Final diagnosis:

Hodgkins Lymphoma, stage 4B (once a lymphoma patient has reached this
stage they are often considered terminal. The cancer has spread
rapidly throughout the lymphatic system, as well as a major organ)
With speaking with my doctor he feels it is curable by a little more
than 50%, although my odds are not the best, all i can do is pray and
try to stay positive. The cancer is in my right upper chest wall, my
right underarm, my shoulder ,neck, the middle of my chest as well as
it has grown into my right lung.Come to find out the doctors suspect
that I have been living with this unknown for about a year and a half."

We had been chatting yesterday daytime on myspace talking over all
sorts of things. Later in the day, one of Tanya's lungs collapsed.
She's in the local hospital for a few days.

Last year we did a couple of photo sessions, so Tanya
is more than "just another Hooters Girl" to me. Fortunately my work
will having me going her way Thursday, so I will have to opportunity
to stop and visit with her for a moment.

I ask that everyone keep Tanya in your prayers. She's been tough,
positive, and as upbeat as possible, but she's in a battle and
needs a whole lot of support from lots of people. I trust you will be
one of them.

beergolftile, I knew chit chat would miss the reason for making the thread.

Actually, it's commonly seen in people in their 20s.

doh, forgot about the bimodal incidence rate. Needless to say, oncology is not one of my favorite topics.

smoking does seem to be a risk factor

but it's far from being the only cause
