well it depends on what exactly you're trying to do

are you trying to create an online radio station?

if so, look at shoutcast.

get yourself some production software such as DRS2006.

profit.

i have a 500gb webhosting, and 10terabyte of bandwith a month,

so i want to make a radio station where i play a random music file from 1 of roughtly 20 or 30 albums

i'd rather play it in my page so i can have other stuff there too, im still looking over shoutcast though

Ok no, you can't run shoutcast through a hosted website account. You need a dedicated/managed server with allocated streaming bandwidth.

...in the mean time, you can set it up on your home computer and test it out and get it working ... just can't have more than 1 or 2 listening due to upstream bandwidth requirements and the subsequent limitations imposed by Cable modem service providers.

so if i want to take advantage of my hosted server with huge bandwidth is there another way
i've hear of just uploading all the songs then using some type of flash player

i'll either stream like a radio or just play a randon song as soon as the user gets to the site

true...but odds are against you have "20 or 30 albums" of royalty-free music to stream...at least, that much music that people are going to want to listen to in order for it to be worth your time

I have web hosting with similar storage/bandwidth.

If I password protect my site, is it legal for me to dump ALL my mp3 music library on my web hosting and setup a personal online player?

^Sure, why not? Although your hosting provider will notice the increase in storage space and likely question your motives. Of course if you have www/ftp logs to prove it's only you, then they'll probably just tell you to carry on.

Your best bet might actually be to set up a private stream from your house though using shoutcast. Even Timewarner's gimped upload cap can support 3 simultaneous 128kbit streams, so just yourself wouldn't be an issue at all. Check their forums for all sorts of ideas along this front.

i doubt they will questions your motives. There are lots of programs that will do off-site backups of your computer. If you bought 100GB storage space from a webhost (and are probably only using < 10 MB for a normal webpage), then it is perfectly reasonable to use some of that webspace for your home computer backup. I think the only time the host would raise a red flag is if your bandwidth usage spikes to the TB level, or if your streamer or shoutcast server or whatever takes up too much of their CPU

still looking for advice on this, i still dont see how i can integrate shoutcast into the website
the only way ive see it work is where it opens win media player separately

anyways any suggestions are welcome, also willing to pay some $$ for help
