Paul Johnson with John Tenuta at GT would suck to prepare forJim Grobe to Nebraska??
11/27/2007 9:19:55 PM
Grobe has said many times that he is happy at Wake. He is pretty much a god there and his job security is pretty solid. I doubt he goes anywhere. Now you know Paul Johnson is going somewhere this year. It was surprising that no one picked him up last year. Perhaps he was approached by some schools, but wanted to wait for better opportunities, such as a Georgia Tech or a Nebraska.

Washington and UCLA coaches are under fire too.
11/27/2007 9:50:17 PM
I don't think Washington should fire Willingham. He hasn't been there long enough to really get results. I mean they did nearly upset USC the other year. UCLA's coach on the other hand seems to be underachieving a little, but they may want to give him another year to see what he can really do with that #3 ranked recruiting class he has coming in. I did hear on College Football Live that there is a rumor that he has to upset USC or else he's fired.
11/27/2007 9:55:01 PM
good thread
11/27/2007 9:56:03 PM
didnt know about Bower, thats really surprising
11/27/2007 9:56:10 PM
I would have thought Houston Nutt could have negotiated a buyout or at least a release to step down at Arkansas. It looks like since he left of his own volition, and resentment over his going to Ole Miss, Arkansas is going to hold his feet to the fire and make him buy his own contract out.
11/27/2007 9:59:35 PM
Yeah the Bower one surprised me the most. That guy was a mainstay at Southern Miss and had the fourth longest tenure in college football. Only Paterno, Bowden, and Beamer have longer tenures. There are two good articles over on ESPN about it. One talks about Nutt in it as well.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=3128982http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3128077[Edited on November 27, 2007 at 10:03 PM. I can't wait to see Nutt at Ole Miss next year.his recruiting is going to be horrible in this area now. however he will have a strong alum support from what i hear.

Baylor is set to announce that Houston's head coach Art Briles will take over as Head Coach at Baylor.

Haha Sidney Lowe was our basketball "consultant" and we saw how that turned out....But I don't think Spurrier will go to Duke again unless he really just wants a big challenge.
11/28/2007 4:30:45 PM
Spurrier going back to Duke would be the clearest sign that he's retired, he'd just be getting paid and working during it.
11/28/2007 5:54:54 PM
yall saw my thread taht beardude trashed but today a big thing if you saw sportscenter was tamu is being sued by the black coaches association for hiring mike sherman. its time to rudy rule and make the rest of the coaches black like the superbowl
11/28/2007 6:48:39 PM
he's just a consultant
11/28/2007 7:12:30 PM
That Rudy rule is stupid.I would've thought we were past that point where we have needed to use some sort of affirmative action in cases like these. While I do think it's important that "minority" (hell, who are we kidding. If they interviewed five hispanics and some asian guys, the BCA would still be crying foul) coaches, it doesn't need to be done in every case. Ole Miss picked up Houston Nutt. He was an established coach at Arkansas. He was their first choice. It worked out. The end.TAMU wanted Mike Sherman. Dude used to coach the Green Bay Packers of all places. For the most part, pro coaches do well in the college ranks (Callahan and Wannstedt didn't get the memo). They wanted him first and they got him. I wouldn't want to waste my time hiring someone for the sake of doing things "the right way." If I was forced to do that, I'd fly him over, treat him to lunch, and tell him he's not getting the job and that this whole process was simply a formality. Way to waste some tuition dollars there.

I don't know if it's been posted but Randy Edsall interviewed for the Georgia Tech job... I knew this was coming eventually but I hoped it was for a bigger job than Tech. Don't get me wrong, they have a proud tradition (7 NC's I think) but right now they are a VERY DISTANT second in their state and right in the middle of a pro sports city..** On the plus side, Skip Holtz would be the leading candidate to replace him and that would screw ECU over...[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 12:05 PM. 95% chance paul johnson will be at georgia tech next year. my boss told me that yesterday before he left for the navy vs. army game with the johnson family. coach johnson has georgia tech the highest on his list because he used to coach georgia southern i believe, knows the area, knows florida, and it's close to the nc mountains where he's from.also fwiw. two coaches (ex-ncsu and current navy) have said that blake (http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/blake_john00.html) is crooked at unc and they've heard from recruits that he is making numerous recruiting violations, including extra stipends and cash.
11/30/2007 3:09:45 PM
no school has contacted Navy about talking to Johnson for coaching positions
11/30/2007 4:57:28 PM
And how do you know? The AD saying it is all hearsay. The only ones that are for sure are PJ and the other schools.[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 5:16 PM. Reason : ]

Who will LSU hire once Les Miles is gone too?LSU will want a name but there are really no big-time football coaches left for hire...
12/1/2007 3:56:17 AM
Miles and Tenuta to michigan = Here's to hoping the fuckeyes get their asses kicked on an annual basis.
12/1/2007 11:10:12 AM
I really wish Wilbon would shut the fuck up about interviewing black coaches and everyone else whining about it.
12/1/2007 11:18:36 AM
^^ yeah, thats badass for Michigan.Makes me wonder if GT is hiring Muschamp now... unless Michigan just offered an assload of money

looks like it's over.
12/1/2007 2:47:28 PM
les miles was pretty authoritative about staying at lsu. if he backs out of this it would be worse than what nick saban did
12/1/2007 3:09:45 PM
notice in that statement he didnt say HOW LONG he was staying at LSU.he never mentioned a timeframe, i think he means he is staying for the rest of this season...listen to that speech carefully
12/1/2007 3:12:00 PM
Looks like Ga Tech might offer the job to Randy Edsall... some think he is just trying to get some more $$$ out of UConn though.I guess they are going to do a few more interviews but I haven't heard any rumors even about PJ...[Edited on December 1, 2007 at 3:14 PM. Reason : x]

O'Brien being mentioned as a top choice for the Michigan opening.
12/1/2007 3:28:16 PM
^^^i know paul johnson will accept if that falls through (from what i've heard at least)
12/1/2007 3:35:33 PM
I'm not doubting you... I know you aren't going to throw around rumors to start shit..Just reporting what I read in the Hartford Courant..
12/1/2007 3:41:20 PM
I saw that too about O'Brien. No way that happens though. When he got the job down here he remarked how it had long since been his and his wife's goal to get back to this part of the country. He loves recruiting in the Tidewater VA area and him and his wife have that house down in Charleston. He wants this to be his last coaching job and retire down there. Plus I think he wants to stick around and really prove a point to BC's athletic director.

must have missed it.. who said TOB was a candidate?
