My girlfriend is new to the area and looking for a good hair salon. Since I'm a guy and I shave my head I didn't know what to tell her. Anyone here have a favorite?

Cost Cutters next to Jax.Not very consistent on quality of hair cut, but its cheap and close so you save gas.
11/23/2007 11:36:03 PM
well I think she's looking for something a little more upscale. maybe having some highlights done as well
11/23/2007 11:53:05 PM
my gf works at salon 21. upper end hairstyling. she's had a few friends get cuts there and they've been very happy with the results. her hair has been looking nice also

I went to Blo in Brier Creek once...last time I had anything done to my hair actually. They did a really good job and knew what they were doing, and have beer and wine and shit to drink while you're getting "the experience." Modern, upscale, not cheap, true professionals, all that jazz. Without having a "favorite" person yet, I'd say she can't go wrong with them. Then again, I am a guy, and even thought I have long hair I really don't take care of it like a girl would. But this place was recommended to me by someone on here, and I was satisfied. here's some article I found on it while looking for a picture for you: http://tinyurl.com/2aapsq

I like Julie at Jay Andrew's Salon and Spa in Apex. It is an Aveda spot and I love their product. I just went this week and my hair looks great![Edited on November 24, 2007 at 2:38 AM. Reason : http://jayandrewssalonspa.com/]

i second blo at briar creek. Eveyone on staff there has done my hair at one point or another in the 3 years they have been open and there isn't anyone there that i wouldn't let cut or color my hair (im a natzi about my hair). They do alot of education and its a nice atmosphere. Its not cheap

i'll recommend blo as well. the two owners are married and my family has been going to them since i was in high school and they worked in a salon in durham. we also went to them when they left the salon and rented a small space and they were the only 2 stylists and now that they have their own salon.since i've moved i havent found a place that can compare. i'll even wait until trips home to get my hair done there sometimes, i've never been disappointed.also you pay for what you get. it's going to cost you a little bit but you'll walk out loving your hair. if you're concerned about prices you can call and ask how much they charge for what you're looking to get done. also be informed that they charge for drying your hair so be sure to ask about that as well.

Artistic Hair in MacGregor Village or Big Hair off Ten-Ten.Both have reasonable prices.Michelle (owner) at Artistic or Julia at Big Hair.

I've heard many, many good things about Design Gallery on Hillsborough. I'm actually planning to try them as soon as I have the time & the funds... they're frequently booked solid.I was pleasantly surprised by the stylist I had at Mitchells at the Mitchells Spa in Cary... but since it was Mitchells I didn't go in expecting much.Horribly disappointed by a wanna-be fancy place in Durham (yes, I should have known better)...Also disappointed by Bill & Sams on Hillsborough- but I was 5 min late, so maybe the stylist was just taking it out on my hair But honestly, I've been to 4 or 5 different places (over the span of a few years, mind you) since the person who did my hair decided to leave the profession. I've never liked any of them good enough to warrant going back. There are lots of older threads about this topic... TAKE THEM WITH A GRAIN OF SALT! The Durham location I visited was HIGHLY recommended by multiple people... so I called and asked for the person who was recommended. Apparently, in the few months that had passed that person had a baby and a new person WITH THE SAME NAME was working in her place. Ugh. Good luck to your GF... and if she finds somewhere amazing, please share!!!

Design Gallery on Hillsborough St gets my vote. I've had Brandi twice, and love her, and everyone that's had the other girl (her name slips my mind) has had nothing but positive things to say. Definitely try them, they're great.
11/25/2007 12:22:27 AM
I think the other girl is Heather, but I normally have Brandi cut my hair. There are millions of salon threads and I think the design gallery get mentioned in each one.
11/25/2007 12:24:53 AM
the prices for blo vary depending on who you have do it.Mens haircuts are usually 30, unless you have one of the owners or more experienced girls do it then its 40 or 45Womens haircuts i think are 40 to 60 but color is what is really expensive
11/25/2007 8:38:42 AM
I like Primp Salon Bar downtown http://www.primpsalonbar.comDesign Gallery on Hillsborough Street is also good

11/25/2007 12:42:59 PM
Well thanks to everyone for your advice. I took her over to Blo in Brier Creek. She got her hair cut by a girl named Brittany, and ended up loving it. Apparently they wash your hair, massage your head, cut, and blow dry for $45, although that may vary depending upon the particular stylist. I thought that was pretty reasonable. The place has a really nice atmosphere, and I think she's planning on going there next time as well. Thanks again for the input
11/25/2007 3:59:52 PM
haBrittany is sassy. I love her

11/25/2007 9:31:00 PM
Design Gallery ftw
11/25/2007 9:44:31 PM
i don't think $40 is pricey for a hair cut (including shampoo, conditioner, cut, and styling)...but i guess so
11/25/2007 9:46:52 PM
i think mine goes to salon 21. i know nothing else about it because when i hear haircut i go back to playing video games/watching tv/etc. im surprised i remembered the name

If your girlfriend is close to Apex, she should try lizmichael's http://www.lizmichaels.com/I know one of the stylists there, Liz, and I let her cut my hair when I did Locks of Love. She did an amazing job, and that's hard for me to say, because I have curly hair and am rarely impressed when someone cuts it.
11/27/2007 1:55:37 PM
