^ - my Dad works in R. I had a summer part-time gig loading pallets full of old computer crap for my Dad. Even just part-time, it was a great place to work. Really liked the atmosphere and the people.
11/21/2007 6:15:05 AM
what benefits they offer?
11/21/2007 6:59:46 AM
haha seriously, that's an unnecessary question.
11/21/2007 7:53:33 AM
free gym, free car washing, free dry cleaning, free preschool, free day care, discounted admission for your kids to Cary Academy, onsite Doctor, private window office for everyone - stuff like that. 35 hour work-weeks? is that still in effect? Also, Jim Goodnight, the founder and CEO, leaves the campus gates by 5:00 every day and expects others to follow soon after (at least that's what he told us when he spoke at my graduation in Dec 02). of course, he lives on campus, so I guess he has no reason to actually "leave the gates", so maybe it was metaphorical they have their own little world up there in northeast Cary. Maybe some of you guys who work there can update the map here with other places on SAS Campushttp://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=35.82439&lon=-78.765235&z=16&l=0&m=a&v=2[Edited on November 21, 2007 at 7:57 AM. and how do i add places to that map? there are a couple buildings that aren't labelled
12/3/2007 4:49:32 PM
^ there's a link in the upper left for "add place". it's kind of hard to see against the background. Jim Goodnight was my graduation speaker in Dec 02. Good speech. He said a few things (i can't exactly remember what, now) that were definitely considered "non-PC" that had the faculty squirming behind him. Something about how many Indians or Chinese the engineering school had, or something. Nothing derogatory, and nothing untrue either, but of course it's considered non-PC just to bring it up. My bro's grad speaker the next year was Phil Donahue...... I think i won out on that one....

dude..... just stop. there is no need to turn this into a pissing contest between working at SAS or NC State. It sounds like you have a job that you enjoy at NC State. congratulations, hold on to it. I guess not all of us can be, uhhh.... as lucky as you. and you can't really compare the vacation/sick days for private vs. public jobs, especially at schools. Schools, by their nature, have more time off than industry. you know.... because school work around school-year schedules, and industry has to work year-round.
12/3/2007 8:42:09 PM
do they have any pt weekend SAS jobs?
12/3/2007 9:10:56 PM

12/3/2007 10:30:09 PM
eh worth a shot.back on topic - one of my buddies works at sas and never says anything but good things about it. he gets stressed sometimes over some project, but no more so than any other job

Guess what ... there are places around here that are better places to work than SAS and pay more too... (sorry if this comes as a reality check)Just a little FYI.Some people dont need the "perks" of SAS. For example, I dont need childcare, thats why I have a wife J/K, but not really. My employer offers "almost free" healthcare(with several options to choose from)Gym -- yupstock ... do you get that at SAS?? just curious...ESPP ... do you get that at SAS?? just curious...opportunity for 6figure salary as a new college grad ... do you get that at SAS?? just curious...Im sure for MANY people, SAS might be a dream job, but I think quagmire02's point is a legit one...and that is that SAS is not EVERYONEs dreamjob, just some peoples, so lets not act like God himself created that company for the sake of those privileged enough to get a job offer... At the end of the day, its still a job, and we would all rather be doing something else with our time
12/4/2007 10:07:02 AM
what company are you working for to get nearly 6 figures right after college?
12/4/2007 10:14:30 AM
^
12/4/2007 10:24:44 AM
I wasnt really saying that I do or dont make that much Just saying that some peoples priorities are different than others, and I would rather work somewhere that pays bank with monetary benefits than somewhere that has a standard gym or gives away a healthcare package worth only 1-5k more than most other companies offer.

I guess I should rephrase to, 6 figures after college with a BS degree.
12/4/2007 10:50:38 AM
^^^ Yeah, exactly ... some people want to get pats on their back and feel good about themselves while they are at work ... and to them, that is a perk.Others don't care what they do, as they enjoy knowing that they are getting paid more than most people to do that job. I think I fall into that category as well. However, i feel lucky since I love what I do on most days, and still get paid what I consider to be top pay for a college grad.^ They do exist but may require and extra 6-10 hours of work each week.
12/4/2007 11:09:42 AM
