11/20/2007 8:03:19 AM
how exactly does 6'3" equate to short? or 6' for that matter?
11/20/2007 9:49:38 AM
No weapon? He should have just taken off running. I'm sure a blue light wasn't too far away.
11/20/2007 9:53:06 AM
One would think students would not be the demographic to rob of their wallets. Everyone student I know uses their debit card and rarely carries more than $20 or $40 cash. Nothing like comitting a crime that can put you away for a decade to get $20.
11/20/2007 9:53:08 AM
Yeah, I agree @ rarely carry more than $20-40.This is also hilarious because of the fact that 9:30pm was still before these older dude's bedtime. Also, what does our campus PD do all day that an area near DH Hill doesn't have cops posted on the regular, even through part of the night hours?
11/20/2007 9:56:18 AM
11/20/2007 10:01:36 AM
if this ever happens to me i am going to start screaming and run, that would scare the holy shit out of them
11/20/2007 10:05:35 AM
If those criminals were really smart, they would have stolen his books and sold them. They're probably worth way more than whatever the dude had in his wallet.
11/20/2007 10:07:38 AM
3v1 I would run, fuck that giving them my wallets.
11/20/2007 10:08:56 AM
The second dude is dumb, robbing people while wearing an orange sweatshirtHe should have been laced in all black, or maybe he was just a really big Bobcats fan[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 10:11 AM. Reason : x]
11/20/2007 10:10:47 AM
this is another reason why you should be able to carry on campus
11/20/2007 10:12:13 AM
rednecks + guns on campus = disaster.
11/20/2007 10:17:57 AM
11/20/2007 10:19:50 AM
more like licensed ccp holders + guns = safer campus
11/20/2007 10:21:17 AM
Because more guns are always the answer.
11/20/2007 10:24:30 AM
this was the answer to the whole noose thingwe are even now
11/20/2007 10:25:33 AM
well then explain how utah, that has the most liberal (i use this term to describe the restrictions on locations where you can carry) has the lowest violent crime rate? (yes coorelation does not imply causation, but it is something to consider)dont you think that people would think if there was the threat that normal, law abiding citizens were armed everywherethose laws against carrying on campus dont deter criminals...they just make normal people vulnerable
[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 10:28 AM. Reason :
11/20/2007 10:26:49 AM
I'm sure it has nothing to do with Utah being full of boring Mormons and all to do with the liberal use of guns. Violent crimes would surely skyrocket if you took their guns away...

I'm pretty sure Suspect #1 is homeless. I drank with that guy at the belltower saturday night.

Oh hey, gun debate? Allow me to cover this page with a quote from a webpage that I agree with.http://munchkinwrangler.blogspot.com/2007/03/why-gun-is-civilization.html

11/20/2007 11:18:39 AM
^^That's why your first call should be to the police and your second to your bank/card company. As long as you make a timely effort to report a stolen card you should be fine. Hell, many visa backed cards give you full protection against that kind of stuff. If they were smart though they'd take your cell phone or cell phone battery (ditching the cell of course.) That might buy them a few more seconds to buy a burger before you could cancel your card.

I'm done trying to argue logic with stupid peoplelooking at stoner 420^ morons drive all the time... which scares me much more[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:04 PM. Reason : .]
11/20/2007 12:03:45 PM
Why give them more ways to kill you on campus then. We do drunk-driving checkpoints on campus fairly regularly. If you'd agree to have a random room sweeps to make sure nobody was drunk with a weapon sure. That would make you a communist though.Anyways, as always the driving/gun comparison is too flawed to be useful. It's a far too often used fall -back despite the silliness of the analogy. The real issue here is how this crap keeps happening in relatively public and well lit areas. Remember the shooting on Dan Allen? How the fuck do people feel like they can pull shit like that especially in areas that are that well lit and well traveled? The answer is our campus police aren't doing their job. Maybe they need more funding and staff, but I'm getting sick of hearing about this stuff in supposedly safer areas.[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:16 PM. Reason : ]

it's already illegal to carry concealed and blow anything over a .00last I heard they already check rooms anywaywhat about people that don't live on campus?why can I walk down hillsborough street on one side and be perfectly legal while carrying (not to mention no danger to anyone) but if I cross the street I'm a felon and OMG DANGEROUS^ I agree to a point (with your edit)campus safety should do more to be seen and make campus well lit and safer, but police can't be everywhere all the time... and honestly, they need to have better training for me to really want to rely on them anyway[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:18 PM. 11/20/2007 12:16:46 PM
^Ah yes, and you trust people to obey the laws after a few drinks eh? If you trust that people obey laws so well, then why even have guns. Simply making it illegal for people to conceal carry and drink doesn't mean anything. No, if you put more guns on college campus you're going to have drunks with guns and accidents. Besides, they don't do random sweeps of rooms. They check them maybe twice a semester or so for fire inspections and stuff like that. But yeah, the gun/ccp on campus debate is a distraction from this thread. It belongs in soap box somewhere.[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:21 PM. Reason : edited to remove condescending jack-assery on my part]
11/20/2007 12:18:42 PM
I don't trust people to obey the law.. at least obey the law as far as my safety and security are concerned... hence me being a gun owner and a CCWP holderwhat you don't realize is the hassle that a CCWP holder goes through to get the permit... the folks I know don't want to risk losing it... not to mention going to jailif a gun owner lived on campus or carried on campus, I'd like to see extra training (like every semester maybe) and a special seal or what not on the student ID(not a blatant "hey look at me")yeah... for another thread... I'm not trying to argue today
11/20/2007 12:23:52 PM
Oh I have no problem with CCP permit holders in general. Personaly, as long as we have guns as part of our society, I'd like to see it be a course in high school. Probably not require it obviously, but if more people who had guns had CCP's I'd be happier in general. That being said, how many of these campus muggings do you ever hear of ending in death or serious injury? How about even minor injury? If there were 1 accidental gun injury a year on campus due to larege-scale gun ownership it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. Sure if everyone who carried was like Aficianodo or your I'm sure it wouldn't be the case, but I don't trust people that much.I do agree that a high number of CCP owners on campus would make this kind of opportunity crime go away though. If you could convince me it wouldn't lead to an increase in accidental gun injuries on campus I'd say it would be a good idea too. [Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:33 PM. Reason : ]

yeah... I'd like to see some type of firearm safety mandatory for say... 5th graderslike... basic stuff... "don't touch, notify an adult, etc"with some basics like... "don't point that motherfucker at something unless you intend to shoot it"and how to at least engage a safety or unload and some basic target stuff to show them what a firearm is capable of doing and that once the gun is fired, there is no getting the bullet back and show the destruction a round can causemaybe some of that at a later age... I just wish EVERYONE knew how to properly and safely handle and operate a firearmyeah... I dunno... never really hear about itI'd like to hear more about sorry worthless human beings that are trying to rob or hurt others catching a bullet to the dome actually
11/20/2007 12:33:02 PM
Yeah that would be nice (hearing about predatory-type criminals being fended off that is.) Anyone know what the rules on knives on campus- ones that can be considered tools rather than weapons?
11/20/2007 12:35:47 PM
i think the blade limit is either 3 or 4 inches on knives.
11/20/2007 12:38:13 PM
not 100% sure... but it can be iffyI suggest everyone going to Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center and purchasing a tazer for <$50a great thing to have which can actually be carried lots of places handguns can't be carried... not to mention the fact that you may be less hesitant to defend yourself if need be since it is a less than lethal weapon and chances are the result isn't final...they are as small as a deck of cards now[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:39 PM. Hah, you know a 3.5 inch partly serrated fishing knife would probably scare the shit out of most muggers. Just make sure you get a kind of crazy look in your face.Wonder if, legally, once you brandish it as a weapon and use it as such you could be charged for carrying a concealed weapon on campus- even if you only brandished it as such in self defense.^Haha, one of the 3 guys shaking like crazy on the ground would probably have scared the other 3 off. Didn't realize tazers were legal in NC, but maybe I'm thinking stun guns.[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:41 PM. Reason : ]

well... if I were to do such a thingI'd keep my mouth SHUTcall a lawyer and make sure that it is understood that you feared for your life and felt there was no other option^ projectile tazers are LEO/GOV only... but the contact ones work within a couple inches and will burn through a thick jacketthey carry a 300k volt and a 950k voltthe main difference is... the 300k will get him off you... the 950k will incapacitate usuallyspend the money on the bigger one... if your safety is in danger you want the most you can get[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 12:43 PM. 11/20/2007 12:59:20 PM
I'd keep a tazer and my pocket and deal with itesp since it's obvious the campus clowns can't take care of business
