as the plane increases forward motion, the treadmill moves the opposite direction at the same speed. (same as the last problem)

the fan is behind the plane.

the huge fan physically moves forward at the same speed as the plane, following it. (it is somehow rigged up to the belt via a pully system so that the fan will always follow the plane.)

the fan is geared so that it blows air towards the plane from behind. (blowing wind up the plane's ass.)

The speed of the air coming from the fan is the same speed as the plane is travelling. (increases with increasing plane speed.)

NOW:
HOW MUCH RUNWAY WOULD THE PLANE NEED BEFORE IT TOOK OFF???

oh, well in that case.

i do believe that the plane is a bit homosexual.

lol that would fail.

however if the fan were in front of the plane, it would lift off

This would hurt the lift at the tail end of the plane. Depending on the size of the fan, the plane may flip over backwards as soon as it starts to take off or it may just be rather difficult to fly.

we are assuming the fan is significantly large and powerful enough so that the size of the plane is insignificant. (a cow is a sphere type of thing)

It will not take off because God the Almighty will not allow such things.

assuming a runway on Earth of sufficient length, sufficent power, and an indestructable system (plane, fan, treadmill, etc)...

the plane WOULD take off, even if there was a net total airspeed (speed of air relative to plane) of 0 around the plane.

then it's probably creating enough negative thrust that the plane won't move anywhere. in fact, it would probably move backwards.

no air movement over wings = no lift

^^ essentially it is a propeller (so large that the plane is insignificant in comparison) blowing in the opposite direction.

[Edited on November 19, 2007 at 10:36 AM. Reason : nevermind. i thought the fan was attached to the plane.]

well if the plane generates sufficient thrust, eventually it will achieve escape velocity and then it will lift off. (in our fun fantasy world!)

but the fan is creating dead air over and under the wing, unless there's a small pocket of air that is capable of creating lift that when the system gets into really high airspeeds the plane will just rip apart instead of flying

YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS.

HE WANTS THE FAN BEHIND THE PLANE.

NOT IN FRONT.
