I like the one guy that's just like "Yeeeeaaaaahhhh" as the plane comes by.
11/18/2007 6:25:22 AM
^^^^ what is the primary role of that type of aircraft?and what do you have to do to get certified or whatever for fighter planes[Edited on November 18, 2007 at 10:44 AM. Reason : ]

God bless the United States

^^ it won't be allowed... but i guess if you did it, surely some weird things would happen with the water below.last week, the RED ARROWS came here, and did a show for the public over the RED SEA... damn, that was absolutely amazing.http://www.raf.mod.uk/reds/they are the aerobatic team of UK's royal air force.

^^^ blown the windows out of a lot of stuff around there^^^^^^ electronic attack. jam RADAR, communications, and other stuff. Shoot missiles at emitters (mostly RADARs). our #1 role is to defeat enemy air defense systems, but we do some other stuff, too.http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/06/ap_prowler_070612/http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/ea-6.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA-6_Prowler[Edited on November 18, 2007 at 2:21 PM. 11/18/2007 2:22:17 PM
Where there two kayaks sitting there as the plane flies in? Heh, I wonder how their ears were doing after that.
11/18/2007 2:24:19 PM
^^been training for the EA-6b for the last 5 months (classes and simulators). won't actually fly until January.^ it's loud, but it won't blow your eardrums or anything. when i lived in pensacola, I saw the Blues all the time (my house was on the approach path to the base...they'd come through my backyard like that at about 100-200').[Edited on November 18, 2007 at 2:25 PM. he wasn't trying to post a picture.he showing how theduke tried to use the image tags for a weblink instead of the image linkalso, THEY FLY THE HAWK? come on RAF
11/18/2007 3:24:57 PM
i don't care what they fly... their performance was awesome.what other plane has such amazing manueverability? (ceriosely asking) (f-18?)
11/18/2007 3:26:38 PM
nothing against the hawk, im just saying...its not really what you think of when you think badass military aircraft. but whatever, they're all good
11/18/2007 3:28:26 PM
F-18 could do better slow-speed, high alpha stuff (but mostly that just consists of the Blue Angel solos making passes to demonstrate it)(those Hornets aren't climbing...they're flying straight ahead at very slow speed in an extremely nose-up attitude). Slow speed control, believe it or not, can come in very handy in aerial engagements, if it actually got to the point of an in-close dogfight. Most any modern fighter would be as much or more maneuverable than a BAe Hawk. That doesn't mean the Hawk isn't perfectly fine at doing formation aerobatics type stuff. They don't need ridiculous roll rates, spine-crushing g's, etc to do what they do. The comparative lack of sheer power would be the only real limiting factor versus a true fighter (although I think the Brits and some other countries DO use the Hawk as an operational, 2nd-teir fighter...although we use it as a flight school trainer).and hey, a Hawk will kick the everloving shit out of the Tutors that the Snowbirds fly.[Edited on November 18, 2007 at 3:38 PM. Reason : also, i THINK that Hawks actually cost more than F-16s!]
11/18/2007 3:35:45 PM
the brits only use it as a trainer now, im pretty sure.duke, what are you going to fly when they shitcan the prowler in a few years, assuming you're still flying then
11/18/2007 3:38:03 PM
I fuckin love airshows and airpowerIt's amazing to see an F-22 do it's thing, if you get the chance, watch it
11/18/2007 3:40:46 PM
fighter pilots probably have the most badass job ever
11/18/2007 3:54:30 PM
fucking a, that seems a bit dangerous
11/18/2007 3:55:37 PM
Aren't the EA-6's going away? When are you all switching to the F-18 for electronic warfare, Duke?
11/18/2007 4:06:32 PM
the switch is happening now, graduallyand, just fyi, since the growler will be doing the electronic warfare, it's designated the EA-18.[Edited on November 18, 2007 at 4:10 PM. Reason : .]
11/18/2007 4:09:56 PM
^ yes, but it will retain the regular fighter and conventional attack capabilities (although they will focus on the EA role)only the Navy is getting the Growler, though. They start taking delivery this coming spring/summer and making a gradual transition. After a few years (2-4, i think), we (USMC) will be getting all of their latest version (ICAP III) Prowlers, and flying them until 2018 (or at least that's the latest plan). As far as what I'm gonna do, I don't plan on it affecting me, at least directly. I have no intention of flying Prowlers until 2018. My plan is to do my first tour (~3 years) in a Prowler squadron, then do something else...hopefully switch to pilot and pick up a CAS platform (F-35, F-18, Harrier, or Cobra) the 2nd time around. If I can't get selected for that, I'll probably try to switch to JAG. If I can't get selected for that, either, I'll prob just work "odd jobs"...Forward Air Controller, Foreign Area Officer, flight school instructor, try to get some sort of staff job in Washington, etc.

11/18/2007 8:14:02 PM
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet...right at the start that plane looks like it nails a bird.
11/18/2007 8:36:19 PM
nowhere near that bird.also, when birds hit jets, the birds explode. it's like a Randy Johnson fastball, times 100.

^, ^^ that's the same incident.it was also a surprise to no one when it happened. the pilot responsible (or irresponsible, really) was WELL known for doing stupid shit with airplanes beyond the realm of max performing the airplane into the realm of being a fucking retard. His (fellow senior officer) peers were known to forbid their men from flying with them, and in that particular incident, another senior officer flew with him because they needed the crew member, but he refused to allow any of his men to go on the jet with that pilot. Turns out he was right--that asshole got everyone dead, right in front of all their families who were at the airshow watching.
11/18/2007 11:28:55 PM
^ I was in Germany when Ramstein happened. I don't go to airshows anymore.
